what do you do? (Christmas gift related)
This is DD's first Christmas. Many people are getting her gifts, usually something small, but these are not people with whom I usually exchange gifts....cousins, friends from work, etc. I think it is so thoughtful and giving of them but I don't want to start something where we are now exchanging gifts. I don't mind getting them gifts b/c I love them but I know it will become me just getting them junk to get them junk. My mother thinks I should be getting a gift for anyone who I anticipate will get DD a gift. I'm not sure what to do. I don't even know if they will do this next year. All of these people already gave DD gifts at my shower and when she was born.
What do you do in these situations? What do you think I should do?

This has happened to me too. I look at it this way, people love giving babies presents. I know I always gave presents to babies on their first xmas, even if it iwas someone I usually did not exchange gifts with. Just write a really nice thank you card if you don't want to start a gift giving tradition.

If the people giving DC gifts have children of their own, it would probably be nice to give something to them. But if they are adults without children, I wouldn't worry about it. I think people like buying gifts for young children--I know I did when my friends first started having children. I really didn't expect gifts in return.
