What do you do if your SIL is driving you nuts?
I love my SIL but ever since she got engaged she is always asking for my opinion and for suggestions, etc since i just got married last year. but every time i give her my response she shoots it down. and now she's just getting rude...for example, the other day she shows me the cake cutter they wanted to register for and says "i dont think we can get them cause they're so $$$$$. how much were yours?"...so i say "mine were only like $100, they were lenox". she says "oh we dont like lenox, it looks cheap." ummm, i just told you mine were lenox!!! hellllooooo???
i just feel like she's asking me so that she can top everything that me and her brother did. her FH is even worse!!! when he found out i had a DOC, he said "what were you too good to plan it yourself??? you actually PAID someone to do this for you???"
i just dont want to help anymore cause i feel like I'M the one who always ends up feeling bad. I dont tell DH cause i know he'll say something rude to her and i dont want to start drama. but how do you politely tell her that you dont want to help...worse part is that i'm a BM so i feel obligated to help!!!
eta: she was never like this until she got engaged. we've always gotten along, i think her FH is a bad influence.

I would not give her any of your favorite secrets, suggestions etc.
Just yes her to death.

Re: What do you do if your SIL is driving you nuts?
I'm lucky that my SIL is great.
If I had your SIL, I would give vague answers.
"We were thinking of x, what do you think?"
"I think if it's important to you, than get it."
"How much was your x?" "Worth every penny." "How much?" "Priceless." "How much did you pay?" "I'm not sure with tax/surcharges, who knows?"
...you could vague-answer her to death but it would be completely worth your sanity.

Pacify her and tell her what she wants to hear.
Sometimes people just want you to agree with them even though they are asking for your opinion.

If she asks about something in your wedding, ask her if she likes it or is thinking about doing the same thing.
SIL: Where did you get your cake knife?
You: Why, did you like it?
Then, see what she says.

ITA... She is being a brat!
Sometimes that happens when people get engaged- they become so self centered that they don't realize when they are being RUDE.

I think that would open her up to more rude comments.

Re: What do you do if your SIL is driving you nuts?
seems like your sil is just like a "friend" of mine.
i got engaged first. as soon as she got engaged, it was EXACTLY what you're describing.
i don't know what kind of advice to offer, because in my case... i just stopped talking to her... she was becoming toxic.
i just wanted to let you know that you're not alone in dealing with people like this.
best of luck to you in dealing with her
