LIW is driving me nuts right now! UPDATED WITH LINK
I know most of us are married already and former LIW brides, but isn't it a little sad to see blatant disregard for the whole concept of marriage?
I actually had someone challenge me that while it is a nice concept to think of the day being mostly about the joining of 2 people, but is that really what it's about?????
WHAAAAATTTTTTT!?!??!?!?!?!?
Of course it is!!!!!
I guess you actually have to get married to realize that, indeed, it is just another day, and it means more than just a dress and a hall and invitations and favors......

also..it is very idealistic and great to say the true purpose of a wedding is to celebrate love. Call me cynical..but is it what we REALLY make it out to be today?

I feel your pain. I got into it the other day when a bride decided to bash getting married in a catholic church. To each his own, but there's no need for bashing when others will be/have had a catholic ceremony.

No, it's about the food, and the invitations, and the seating arrangements...and making your BM's crazy and fighting with everyone because it's "your day, your way"...
Hope your marriage makes it when all is said and done and the party's over...

She is proving her own point here. I think she is somewhat right in that a lot of people have lost the true concept of what a wedding is, it is no longer the celebration of marriage and the the joining of two people. It is about the ring, the hall, the band, the dress, etc.....
I think many people are getting married for the wedding...not the marriage these days.
And I am not saying all people, I agree with you that the true purpose of a wedding is the marriage....I am just saying that I don't think it is uncommon for people to lose sight of that!

These girls who think it's about them and the day are in for a shock; okay...most people hate going to weddings. So, there's really only a handful of people there who care. Then the day is over.....and then, to me, that's when life began. I noticed this in that post about cheating. The main reason was: "Don't tell him, the wedding will be off." Yeah, that's a great reason.

people get all caught up in the planning and what everoyne ELSE's needs are that they forget what the real meaning was.
i have not read the post you speak of but i can imagine thats what her feelings are.
as for me, i can tell you that before the wedding, all that ran through my mind was the planning. after the wedding, i think in hindsight, we realize the commitment that was made and how that commitment over rides ANYTHING ELSE on that day

honeslty, most of the brides on liw are out of their minds. they have compeltly lost touch with reality. and its sad and frustrating at the same time. i want to post to tell these girls to chill and enjoy being engaged, but the words fall on deaf ears.

How Wrong. First of all I went to a wedding in GA. It was just as nice as my wedding and was 24.00 a head  Who gives a crap. People should go to the wedding to see the couple and support them not for the free food and fee dust collectors OOO I mean Favors.
My very good friend got married in a VFW hall. My family thought it was the best wedding. It wasn't over done. The food was catered and you served your self. No big Fancy Cake No big fancy place. Great time. AND she is on LIW I couldn't imagine if she read that how hurt she would be
