What do you do if you're sick when you give birth?
So last week I got a cold... that added a sore throat.... that added a really runny nose... that yesterday added a cough, which last night decided to move into my chest, keeping me up most of the night coughing and clearing my throat. So lovely!!!
I go to the dr today and LO looks ok so we can wait until fri as planned, and hopefully I'll be better and rested a bit. that is my hope at least lol But i worry that on Fri things will still be that same.
But if we have to go in today to be induced, idk what to do. I can barely keep my eyes open, there is no way I can do labor. I hate to say it but can they give me some sort of drugs to help stop the sore throat and phlegm, that won't hurt the baby? I want to try drug free but I'm not sure anymore that will happen. they won't just do a c-section if they think I don't have the strength to push will they? Will i still be able to hold and feed my baby even though I'll be coughing? (the good news is that I haven't gotten anyone here sick so hopefully it isn't contagious).
I just feel like all these months of planning are going to go to hell because the one time I get sick in 9 months is the week I am due! And every day I get worse instead of better! It's not supposed to be this way. I was so scared before and this is putting such a huge stressor on me.
I feel like all I am doing this week is freaking out

Re: What do you do if you're sick when you give birth?
I was sick when I went into labor too. It was actually in the height of the whole "swine flu" scare so they treated me like I had the flu to be safe. They still made me go through 24 hours of labor (and that is not easy too do when you are sick but I promise that you that you CAN do it) and they made everyone around me wear masks. I developed a fever during labor and her heart rate was dropping so I ended up having a crash c section. I was not able to see her until I was 24 hours free of fever - which ended up being a bout a day and a half . Then when I was allowed to see her I had to wear a mask. But on the positive side I got a private room from it bc they didnt want me infected the other women or babies, lol.
I think my situation is probably a lot more extreme then what will happen for you bc they did think I had swine flu. Turns out, I didn't and it was just a bad cold. One of my OB's told me that some women do show signs of colds right before they go into labor. The funny thing is I felt completly better the day after giving birth!
Good luck to you and try to worry too much. This stuff happens all the time!
