Were any mom's sick when giving birth?
I have this horrible cold that I can't seem to kick and I have a c-section scheduled for Friday. Should I be concerned? I want to nurse - do you think I will have any problems holding the baby when I am sick? DS is sick with a cold also - do you think they will let him come see the baby?

Re: Were any mom's sick when giving birth?
My almost 2 year old had bronchitis, I had a terrible cold and my DH got sick right after my younger one was born. The ped actually thought it was good for me to nurse since I would pass some immunity to the baby. I didn't have a csection, so I would just let you dr know you have a cold ahead of time. I'll admit, it was a very stressful time for me bc I was terrified the baby would get sick, but he did just fine.

I had a terrible cold and sore throat when I gave birth to my son. I happend to be on antibiotics for a UTI but I was so upset. I was nervous that I was going to get DS sick. My Ped reassured me that he already had my antibodies and he would not get sick. Feel better and good luck!

Re: Were any mom's sick when giving birth?
I had a csection last week and had a head cold for about a week before. The only thing that frustrated me was I couldn't get a good cough during the surgery. They had no problem letting me breastfead. They thought it would be good for him.

I was sick when I gave birth to DD. Breastfeeding is the best thing for the baby if people are sick in the house. You can pass the antibodies that way. I would keep a sick sibling away but maybe talk to your ped.

Re: Were any mom's sick when giving birth?
I had a high fever, not sure what it was, when I delivered. They allowed me to hold DD since I had the fever BEFORE I had her (immunity passed). I kept questioning if it was ok, even for the whole 5 days, and they kept saying it was ok. Sad but even my delivery pics, you see me with my mouth closed, afraid to even breathe on my child b/c I kept worrying she would get whatever I had. But in the end all was ok with DD, never got what I had as they said she would not.
