What do you do to feel "secure" in your home?
We have an alarm and motion detectors, but I read true crime novels so I know how easy it is to get "past" these things. Also, some of the locks in our house don't seem that hard to pick if someone wanted to...
DH isn't the type to have a gun, but a few years ago he ordered these ridiculously scary knives off of TV late one night...they are huge and really sharp, so I keep one in my nightstand and he keeps one in his....not sure if I would really be able to use it if I had to, but it gives us peace of mind.
What do you do / have that makes you feel safe in your home?

Re: What do you do to feel "secure" in your home?
We just lock the doors - we live on the second floor and neighbors are very close - plus our landlord has security lights outside
I actually feel very safe

Re: What do you do to feel "secure" in your home?
We have an alarm system and DH just recently get like a video monitor installed so that we can monitor if we are home or not. Honestly, I think there is so much a person can do to feel secure. Just have to pray for security and that nothing will happen.

Re: What do you do to feel "secure" in your home?
as long as Jake is home- I feel very safe
he is a maniac- but we don't have any weapons
he would like to get one when we buy a house- but I am not sure how I feel about that
we have a deadbolt on the door- and 24 hour sercurity in the building- but that is meaningless to me

our dogs, motion deectors, lights that go on with movement (outside), a chime on the doors and windows so that if any of them open it chimes like macys and we know either a door or a window has been opened, signs everywhere stating that we have an alarm system!!

Last year when we moved in it was during all the break ins. I went around and put the signs for our alarm EVERYWHERE

Re: What do you do to feel "secure" in your home?
we live on the first floor and the only thing we have really is a chain on the door. I've thought about getting an alarm, but I'm afraid it will go off a lot.

On a scale of 1-10, 10 as the high - I'm an 8. I think it's because I've never been a victim of a crime.

Re: What do you do to feel "secure" in your home?
We have an alarm, and my dh is extremely cautious (ie., paranoid....he works in law enforcement), so he made sure it had both motion detection and alarmed windows/doors. I feel fine when he is home.
When he is doing an overnight tour, I have to admit I still get a little nervous.

Re: What do you do to feel "secure" in your home?
Doors and windows are locked. My house is set far back from the street and the other side is a sump so it's really difficult to make a getaway.
We have contemplated an alarm system, but haven't done it yet.
I do feel secure. My neighbors have all told me that over the years there have been very few break ins and no car vandalisms.

Re: What do you do to feel "secure" in your home?
Alarm with a motion detector just installed last week and a little barking dog that will let us know of anything going on downstairs when we're sleeping.
We also have an alarm pad upstairs right outside our bedroom door, as well as by the front door, so if there is someone in the house we can set off the panic alarm from upstairs.
I'll never have a gun in my house.

Re: What do you do to feel "secure" in your home?
We have sensor lights surrounding the outside of the house (landlords put them in) and deadbolts, that's about it. Our house will definitely have an alarm though. I feel safe when DH is home and pray alot when he's not home!

Re: What do you do to feel "secure" in your home?
Three rather loud barking dogs. I, also, have a billyclub that was given to us by a cop friend that I keep close at hand. If someone's coming in, they better be coming in with a gun, or else, they are going out on a stretcher.
