What do you do when your toddler refuses to eat
DD is being very picky these days and her choices arent healthy ones. DID you give in just to feed them or not?
Also she feeds with a fork but cant get the food on herself BUT doesnt want me to help her. all the food ends up on the floor. she gets frusrated and mad then doesnt eat.
PLEASE what do i do?????

Re: What do you do when your toddler refuses to eat
It depends. Usually I let it go. Lately it has to have cheese on it or cheese somewhere in the meal to be appealing to him! I can sometimes manage to show him cheese and say - 1st take a bite of.... and then you get cheese. That can work for 2-3 bites.
Luckily he loves peas, so as long as he is eating peas with whatever crap, I'm happy!
He also eats strawberries and blueberries, so I can only get him to eat that, but I figure there are worse things he could eat....

Re: What do you do when your toddler refuses to eat
We took a hard line approach - if she didn't want to eat what we gave her, then she would go to bed hungry. If it was breakfast or lunch, then we wouldn't give her snacks in between. They won't starve themselves, eventually they will eat, but the danger with giving in is setting up poor eating habits that will live with them for a long time.
It only took a short amount of time before Alex caught on and now she eats like a dream - she eats salad everyday, lots of fruits, veggies, hummus, fish, everything we eat and hardly any junk.
ETA - I also noticed that if I cut back on snacks before mealtimes, she's more willing to eat what I give her. We have a rule - no snacks one and a half hours before lunch or dinner, and it has really helped.

Re: What do you do when your toddler refuses to eat
Paige has always been a picky eater and I feed her what she wants. It might not be healthy but I would rather her eat than not eat.
she never eats veggies, but now she is finally eating fruits. She eats all the kid stuff. Mac n cheese, hot dogs, nuggets, macaroni, waffles, pancakes, french fries, etc.

Re: What do you do when your toddler refuses to eat
Noah is a picky eater and I feed him what he likes to eat....pasta, choo choo pasta, more pasta, chicken nuggets, oven chips, hummus, ketchup, lollipops, hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, eggs, toast, cheese on toast...
If he doesn't want to eat, he doesn't eat. If he was hungry, he would let me know he wanted something.

We do the samething with DS. Most days he only has 2 real meals and maybe a snack in between. I do noticed if it is really hot out he doesn't want to eat just drink and I can't deprive him of drink so he ends up filling up on that. Also what some may think of a snack is an actual meal for him. For ex. 2 yo'baby's and a fruit cup or 2 has been his lunch for a while now.

This is what I did too.

Re: What do you do when your toddler refuses to eat
Mine is a big time snacker. At the pool I will pack fruit and wasa crackers, swimming always spikes his appetite.
I always stick to the meal though. If he is hungry he will eat. I pretty much know what is on his hated list, watermelon...so that I let slide.

If he doesn't want to eat, he doesn't eat. The ped told me it is worse to force feed him. Eventually he tells me he is hungry and then eats a ton.

Re: What do you do when your toddler refuses to eat
If she doesn't want to eat, oh well. She'll eat when she's hungry. And I give her choices for breakfast and lunch but never dinner. If she doesn't like what's for dinner, then too bad. She hardly ever skips a meal.

I could have written this word for word.
Also with Nikolas, he pretty much only eats 2 'good' meals a day. He eats a good breakfast and a good dinner, but practically eats nothing for lunch.
I fought this for awhile, as I couldn't understand how he could go from 8am until 6pm without eating anything but a few snacks. But now I've finally resolved myself to the fact that he'll eat when he is hungry. I usually give him a drinkable yogurt, some cheese and crackers around 'lunchtime' and we call it lunch and go about our day
