What portion constitutes a "meal" for your 10-11 month old and how many meals do they eat a day?

In addition to formula bottles...

Lately, feeding DS food has b/c such a struggle - the puree food he will scarf down but, anything that takes a little work to chew he takes FOREVER - sometimes it takes an hour to feed him! And, he must be distracted by toys and entertained the whole time...I am wondering if maybe I am expecting him to eat too much?

TIA!

DD is also having a hard time with solid foods. She will eat pasta, pizza, chicken cut up but is still attempting to "gum" them on the sides of her mouth. If I add anything slightly chunky to her pureed she gags on it. I also don't know if she's gumming the more solid food on the side since her eye teeth are trying to break through.

She is eating every 2 1/2 hours. We were alternating between bottle and then food but her new daycare has a different system so they are acclimating her to that during the day. Now she gets a bottle with her lunch to help the kids take longer naps.

How much does she eat at a time when you feed her solids? Is she eating solids more than 3X per day? TIAA!

I was told and have read that the way babies eat is by gumming foods. They don't need to use their teeth except to bite. After all some babies don't get any teeth until they are a year old and are still eating solids. So I don't see how gumming is a problem.

Typical meals for my dd (10 mo)
Breakfast:
Scrambled egg yolks mixed with formula and 3 tbs cereal.
OR
Half nutrigrain waffle and half dish of organic oatmeal (the kid version).

Lunch:
Yogart w/ cereal (for iron), half an avocado or a fruit
OR
1 Slice of full fat organic American Cheese w a fruit or veggie jar or diced fruit.

Dinner:
Stage 3 Organic first soups w/ whatever we are eating.
Or
our dinner inc a piece of meat, veggie and starch.

If our dinner is not very healthy I feed her the stage 3 soups.

Its so hard to make sure she gets everything she needs so occasionally I fall back on jared food. If we are eating steak I grind it up otherwise I just dice it. My dd is really into tablefoods and prefers no "slop" She likes to feed herself and feeds herself nearly everything and no she has not mastered the spoon and yes she is a disaster by the end of a meal.

DD is 9 mos but loves solids. This is basically our food day:

Breakfast, 4 oz bottle and a Stage 3 oatmeal/fruit mix, or just plain oatmeal with stage 2 fruit

Naptime (1030ish)-4 oz bottle

Lunch around 130-2ish, yobaby yogurt (scarfs this down) and a Stage 2 veggie or a bunch of shredded cheese, puffs and sometimes parts of a fruit bar

3ish, 7 oz bottle

Then dinner at 630, Stage 2 veggie mix, fruit and if we have chicken, pieces of chicken (shredded), as we have no teeth here!

8 oz bottle at 8

I need to incororate more meats but I do not like the smell of the jarred meats.
