Never hang them...then you have hanger shoulders and your sweaters are stretched out.
I fold them and put them in a drawer.

Fold and put on a shelf. Big cardigan ones that I grab when it is super cold to wear like a jacket I hang on a hook on my door using the tag (they are too bulky to fold)

I fold them and then put them over the "pants" portion of the hanger and hang them up.

Fold the bulky ones.
The delicates (cashmere, merino wool), I usually fold and hang (like when they come back from the dry cleaners).

It depends on the sweater. Most I fold but some twin sets I hang together on a padded hanger.

I was going to post this last week!
I have so many that the piles topple over and everything is such a mess. There is not enough room for several piles. They are too bulky to squeeze into a drawer.

I have huggable hangars so I hang them in the closet. before I bought those hangars I put sweaters in a drawer.

I used to put them on a shelf, but then I would have to get a chair out or risk having the pile fall on my head in the morning.
Now, I fold and put in a drawer.
