What do you feel when going under anesthesia?
I've only been under anesthesia twice but just wondering if everyone feels the same thing.
I get a ringing in my ears and they feel clogged kind of and then I get dizzy and pass out. I remember the firs time the lights in the room were on and everything looked yellow.

Re: What do you feel when going under anesthesia?
All the times I've been under, it feels like I'm going into a very deep sleep very quickly. No ringing, no weird sensations, just a very quick fall into a very deep sleep. It's pretty cool, actually.

Re: What do you feel when going under anesthesia?
I was put under twice- once I got dizzy and fell asleep very quickly- the other I was told to the ceiling would look like it was moving and if I wanted to I could close my eyes. I did, and I highly recommend that. I think it helped to freak out less!
Good luck!

Re: What do you feel when going under anesthesia?
One time I was very young and don't really remember actually going under (it was with a gas mask), the more recent time they told me to count backward from 20. I started to, felt a sharp stinging in my arm, and by 16 I was out. Very quick, I barely had time to register the stinging and I was out like a light. Quick and easy!

I think it is a cool experience.
I had it about a month ago and I always to try to fight it. One second I am talking to the people in the room and before you know it you are out.

How do you feel when you wake up? I am petrified to have any tests done that require me to be sedated or knocked out...I can't stand feeling sick and I have put off so much because of it...

Re: What do you feel when going under anesthesia?
Every time I go under (about 4 times) and even when I had spinals, I have an initial allergic reaction where I can't breath... it's terrifying. No one knows what it's from. I was once told Droperidol (I had hives and couldn't breath).... but something still causes a problem for me.

I always let them know beforehand that I tend to get queasy from anesthesia and they put zofran in my IV...I usually wake up feeling like I just had a nice nap
BTW, I've been under easily more than a dozen times

Re: What do you feel when going under anesthesia?
I've had anesthesia 2x in the past 4 years. Both times I begin to wonder how long it will take me to be out, and then Im out. Waking up, I feel like Im waking up from a nap. I remember hearing the nurses voices, and I wish they would be quiet so I could keep sleeping . I felt a little groggy, but not nauseous

Re: What do you feel when going under anesthesia?
I've been under more times than I care to count, most of the time with the same anesthesiologist, I think my good reaction may have something to do with it.
I like the feeling the 15-20 seconds before I actually go out. I feel nice and warm and comfortable.

Re: What do you feel when going under anesthesia?
i went under anesthesia in september and it really was the best sleep ever. they gave me the IV in my hand... when they began giving me the anesthesia, i just remember closing my eyes and passing out within a few minutes. i didn't feel anything or hear any ringing in my ears.
when i woke up, it felt like i had just fallen asleep. i felt fine, no sickness or anything.

Re: What do you feel when going under anesthesia?
I've been put out a number of times for different tests and surgeries. It is always a relaxing feeling and then nothing.
PS For surgery they give you some sort of relaxer before they put you on the table. It always helps things along.

Re: What do you feel when going under anesthesia?
I've only had it once, years ago for an endoscopy. I don't remember much other than the doctor telling me I'll be out in about 10 seconds It was a light dosage because it was a quick procedure. I'm having surgery tomorrow which can last anywhere from 45 mins to 1.5 hours. I'll have to post after if I remember anything from it.

Re: What do you feel when going under anesthesia?
I don't really remember anything. Maybe a sting right at first and then I am waking up.
I wake up very badly though. Not so much nauseous but hysterical crying and I don't know why. But after a few minutes I feel fine.
I did get nauseous after I woke from my C-section though. But I'm not sure if that was from the anesthesia or b/c they just pulled my insides out.

Re: What do you feel when going under anesthesia?
its a weird feeling. its definitely like getting high when they start you on it. its just a scary thought about what they are about to do to you while your under the anesthesia. but you dont know wats going on, and when you wake up you almost dont remember why your where you are, what happened and probably will wanna go back to "sleep" lol.

Re: What do you feel when going under anesthesia?
It's so weird how the experience is different for everyone...
I've only been under once...for my back surgery about 2 years ago. They wheeled me into the OR (IV was already in) and put a mask over my face. The surgeon's assistant said, "I'm just going to give you some oxygen", and that was it. It was INSTANTANEOUS for me. No fading out, no feeling dizzy...it was like I was awake one second, and dead asleep the next.
The way I woke up wasn't pleasant, though--they had JUST extubated me and I woke out of my "coma" coughing terribly. It was SUCH a weird experience, though--I remember thinking, "What just happened?" and then I felt the pain in my back where they had done the surgery, and that was really my first indication that it was done.
