What do you give a doctor?
I had my July baby via emergency csection on May 28th and DH and I want to give our doctors (OB and perinatalogist) a gift because my pregnancy wasn't the easiest and they were both amazing and helped get me through! But we've been going crazy trying to think of what to give them. What do you give 2 guys that pretty much have it all? Ideas please! Thank you ladies!

What do you give a doctor?
Generally I would not send anything as pp said they did their jobs. If you are set on getting a gift I would get a nice box of chocolates or a bottle of wine.

This. If you want to acknowledge them, send a card.

Re: What do you give a doctor?
I agree that it's not necessary to send something, but if you'd really like to maybe send some cookies or an edible arrangement to the whole office?

Re: What do you give a doctor?
this is an interesting post, because most pp on this site TIP the world including the lawn guy, mail man, garbage man, give GC to teachers, swim coaches speech pathologist, RE's for getting them preg, these are people getting paid to do their job but give an OB a little something is a no no or not necessary
I don't get it...
I do think home baked cookies or chocolate with a card is always nice

Re: What do you give a doctor?
I did something for my OB. I organized with one of the nurses to have their lunch hour catered from his favorite deli. He called me after to thank me and must have told me a million times it wasn't necessary, but honestly I would do it again.

Re: What do you give a doctor?
Having a baby and tipping a lawn guy(don't do that either) but it's 2 totally different things. Having a baby is not cheap as far as your OOP expenses: insurance deductible and copays and having to pay 80% of each visit.
As I said before no gift is necessary if you want to send a card with a pic of the baby to go on their great wall(doctor half the time never sees it) go right ahead.

Re: What do you give a doctor?
I think that sending them personal thank you notes would mean the most to them. Also, writing your praise to hospital administration is also a nice way to show your appreciation of their efforts.

Re: What do you give a doctor?
I think anyone who goes above & beyond deserves a "thank you". In OB, as opposed to your hairdresser, these doctors are often extending their hours & missing dinner with their families to do everything right (which takes time). They hopefully make more $ than a hair dresser, but would appreciate a thank you present just as much!
For a doctor: A bottle of wine, edible arrangement, box of baked goods or box of chocolates are the norms. Alternately, I've seen MD go crazy over a bunch of figs from a backyard garden or a container of fresh strawberries: it's really about the effort & thought not the cash value!
A nice thank you letter is also appreciated. You can send the hospital administration a short email.
Please don't forget your nurses. The one who stayed with me 30 minutes past her shift to deliver my baby that night got a gift card to a local restaurant. Guess who took care of me when I had my second baby?

What do you give a doctor?
We gave munchkins to the nurses and also nicu got treats. 9 months later, we sent pizza to the nicu. Now that you say this, I will give some stuff to the doctor, maybe when we do the disability paperwork.

Re: What do you give a doctor?
After DD was born, I had sent a card to my OB with a box of chocolates. I know it isn't much, but I just wanted to give her a small "thank you" at least to let her know how much she means to me.
I love the new OB that I have right now. Already she's been a huge blessing to me. I would love to do something similar after #2 is born.
ETA - since with #1 it was an induction, we had gone to the hospital that day with bags of goodies for the nurses (snacks & candies and such). That was just kind of a little thank you for all that they do in general. So I didn't send anything else for them afterwards. Not sure if we'll do the same next time around. lol. Maybe.

I completely agree!! People are so easy to tip the garbage men but when it comes to people who literally helped you to bring a life into this world the tables seem to turn. I had a very different relationship with my doctors than I guess most people experience. I had a lot of issues and after 3 years I'm finally holding my miracle baby. Without my high risk OB and perinatalogist I most likely wouldn't be holding my child as I type this. I was at one of their offices at least once a week and became very close to them. In the end they not only helped my son but they helped me medically. This is why I think doing a nice gesture for them and their office staff is not something that is out of this world insane. Everyone has their own opinions and that's completely fine, but different people also have very different experiences.

Ditto. I don't tip people who work on salary. Like me. Nobody tips me at work. I tip waiters and hair stylists etc because they pretty much work for tips...they make a very small salary. It's apples and oranges

My point really, and I think its getting lost, is how so many pp on this site tip up the ass for every little thing (******** stuff imo), but give a card and cookies to a DR and staff, even though they were paid for a job, who by the way worked hard to help a person deliver a healthy baby..so many people are saying not necessary. Its not necessary but nice especially since so many tip for less good deeds
I don't tip garbage men, mailmen etc, BUT always give my DR's and Staff a card and baked goods, chocolate etc to share and enjoy. Especially my PCP who has been my rock during some very tough and emotional moments over the last several years

I don't agree its apples and oranges. In this case its not about the income a person makes but letting them know you appreciated their help and support. If its just about income a person makes then all the tipping done by people on this site is crazy, because all the peps getting GC and tips for doing their jobs are making great $$ with great benefits plus more then the average worker

ITA: it's not really a tip: it's a thank you. I tip my hairdresser & my waiter. I give a gift for extra effort for a MD, nurse, even friend for help. It's not cash & not going to support them.
