What do you like.....

about your kitchen. Or dislike. Looking for answers related to layout, function, and tools. We are redoing ours and I would love to hear what others think is good and bad in their kitchens.

What do you like.....

Right now I'm pretty sure we have the worlds smallest kitchen.

When we redo it, we're hoping to do the following:

More upper, lower cabinets
Skinny spice cabinet
Double farmhouse sink (we have a double now)
Side by side fridge
Wine fridge

And a working dishwasher would be nice lol

If you can, get lights under the cabinets. That's my biggest regret!!

Our new kitchen is big and open and new BUT we don't have any large pantry. The woman who owned the house before us designed this big beautiful kitchen with no pantry I guess she didn't cook much....

Love that most of my upper and lower cabinets do not have a bar in between the doors (they have a faux bar attached to the door and when you open both doors it is unobstructed so I can put wider things in there)

Hate that I have a single small cabinet next to the stove that should have been drawers, they'd serve more purpose than the narrow cabinet.

Hate that my kitchen doesn't have an island. The distance from the sink/stove to the fridge makes cooking inconvenient sometimes.

Really dislike that the fridge is framed in my cabinets and a wall. It prohibits me from getting a newer style french door fridge or a side by side (or really a decent sized fridge)

What do you like.....

Oh, I saw someone recently take their wall outlets and put them up under the cabinets as a long strip with lighting and even had some USB ports for phone/tablet etc charging

i totally designed my kitchen and it worked out with the space i had.

lots of counter space.
lots of cabinets.
a peninsula
i could have fit a small island but opted out and LOVE the open space in the middle.
opens up to my dining room and living room
i did all white, but a multicolor glass tile backsplash that goes to the ceiling. very airy and bright but not lacking color.
having room on either side of my stove to put things down.
convection microwave
a very large sink. easy to wash everything.

Island in the middle with extra prep sink and stools
Lazy Susan corner spice rack
Desk built in
That it flows right into our den with a half wall in between, great for entertaining when I'm in the kitchen
It also flows into the dining room (duh) and has a butler panty in between with a wine fridge

Our drawers don't slam! Lazy susan is awesome.

I don't have this but I've seen a double dishwasher. Takes up the room of one but they're individual so you can do half a wash if needed.

Our biggest regret, and it has been about 4 years now, is not re- designing the layout. We worked within the layout that was there . We regret not opening up the kitchen to the living room, or even dining room. We knew it would cost more money to relocate appliances and take down walls. Yes, it would have been a pain in the ass, but it would have been worth it.
What we love is our double deep sink. It's great being able to clean pots within the sink and not splash all over. We also love that we removed the sophet and took the cabinets up to the ceiling.

Pull out drawers in all of the lower cabinets and also in the pantry. I can't tell you how happy these make me. lol

I like the tons of counter space. You can't ever have enough.

What I hate:
- sink - I wish it was deeper
- lights - the window is behind the person at the sink and we have high hats, but wish we had lights under the cupboards along the counter and the cupboard over the corner sink.

LOVE my kitchen. I love the layout, the space such as cabinets, and even the color of them. They are cherry. I dont like the hardware that is on there or the counter tops. They are a black corian, and shows EVERY scratch.
Also LOVE the island.

Perfect size for our house (big, but you don't need a Segway to get around.... )
Biggest sink I could physically fit in the location.
Custom cabinets
Separate microwave and hood vent. Dedicated vents really keep all of the steam and odors out of the house.
Undercabinet lights and above cabinet lights, with outlets above the cabinets so you can't see the wires or LED transformers/controllers. Above cabinet lights can change colors based on the holiday or theme, or cycle through colors.
All LED lights
Separate light directly above sink on its own switch.
Double oven
Large pantry
Bamboo floors
(almost) seemless backsplash. Used 4'x8' panels, so there are only corner seams and two tiny seams under the windows.

I think my sink is too small
No island
No pantry (but we use the cabinets because we have many)
Not large enough to be an eat
Not crazy about granite and back splash choice (it is VERY sterotypical italian (i.e., marble/granite overload our backsplash is also marble/granite) - haha and I will say that because my family is right off the boat and LOVES that look)

My kitchen was renovated right before we purchased it. I would have preferred a bone white color cabinets instead of dark cabinets and also it's too small for me. Wants to remove a small wall and make the layout bigger (hopefully in a few month). Everything else i like such as the granite sink, stove etc.

Dislike:

Size (small), layout (relates to size) & function (relates to size & layout ). And don't get me started on the design (1980s laminate.)



We're in the process of preparing for an addition/renovation which includes a larger kitchen, so I anticipate being able to post my "likes" a year from now.

right now, I like my kitchen.

If I could redo the counters in granite and add a new updated backsplash, I would LOVE it. I'd also like to replace the sink and faucet.

We have white cabinets, stainless appliances and a terra cotta tile floor. Counters and backsplash are white too I need more color!
