What do you use to lubricate rectal thermometer?
I have the Vick's 10 second rectal digital thermometer, which I love. I noticed today that the directions say not to use Vaseline. What do you use?

I use Vaseline. I'd asked the pediatrician and he said that's what they use. He didn't know why they say not to use it.

I have the same one. I asked the pharmacist - he said use KY jelly. Something about the vaseline not coming off the tip and affecting the accuracy.

We use the disposable plastic probe covers you can buy-we don't put anything on the tip and it goes is well-and keeps is sanitary.

After reading that same thing i asked the ped and the pharmasist and they both said to use vaseline. the phrarm. felt the warning was there b/c the vaseline could damage the tipif applied directly to the thermom. but, i always use a probe cover. i just didn't feelright using the ky
