what does a brand new mom need??
it's been so long, i don' remember.
an acquaintance just had a baby and i'd like to knit something quick to give as a gift. the baby was born yesterday.
booties, hat, bib, or something for mom?

When DS was born we received hand made sweaters, booties, hats and blankets. I loved all of it. I still use the blankets. I would say a really large knit washable blanket was my favorite thing. It is still on the rocker. I used it when holding DS at night when he was really little - it kept both of us warm. If it was me - I would vote blanket because it will still fit for a long time.

Maybe have a meal delivered to the house one night?
In the beginning, having meals prepared can be a little rough.
Or a GC so she can treat herself to a mani/pedi when she's up to it? (GCs are good for a year usually).
Hmmm can't think of anything else right now.

If you want to make something, a knit blanket is nice! I have 3 that were made for Logan........one I will use in his carseat, one on the rocker & the smaller one in his bouncy seat!
If not that, my FAVORITE thing was the meals brought by a friend, the dinner my brought from home & the dinner my brother had delivered the first day were home!!!

Exactly!!!! A blanket would be great!!!! But I also would have killed for a meal in those first few weeks. Especially DH when I went back into the hospital and he had DS all alone. All he had was fast food.

Food!! I tried to BF but since i had a c-section and was left all alone during the day so I didnt have the energy to make myself anything so my body couldnt produce enough milk for DD I would have killed for someone to bring/make me food!!

I just needed someone to help me and someone to keep me company. I liked having someone around just in case.
Other than that, food is always great.

I loved a handmade sweater set & hat someone bought me.
One of my favorite photographer sites has a cute pink hat & this sort of this green socklike thing I think is great for photos.

i think i might go with a frozen dinner or two and a knit hat... don't have enough time for a blanket for this particular visit.

Hat & dinner sound perfect!! If it's a warm hat, maybe make it a little bigger so the baby can wear it in the fall...don't know how much baby would wear a warm hat for the next few months!

LOL - my sentiments exactly!!
Though if you're knitting...a blanket would be lovely. Something to use and have as a keepsake. Someone gave me 2 knit blankets and I love them!

For a future visit, I LOVE the handmade blankets we got.
I had a winter baby and I definitely could have used a few more hats. I got a sweater set, but it never really fit him properly, so we never used it.
