What does FSH really mean?
I was told last night by my RE that my last blood test FSH # was 11. He said that is borderline. He didn't seem overly concerened and we are going to start yet another IUI, but this time with injections. We've been ttc for 28 mos., so is this number something I should worry about?

Re: What does FSH really mean?
I don't want you to panic or anything but I am a patient at Cornell (CRMI) and I know that anything over 10 is considered High and requires special protocols (more aggressive) there.....
Cornell likes to see FSH under 10.....since yours was 11 I would have it retested again (sometimes you might get two different numbers) and see what happens.
But it is not terribly high so don't worry yet...did you have your estradiol tested?? Cornell looks at 2 factors: Day 3 FSH and estradiol when determining protocols....

Re: What does FSH really mean?
There is a good explanation on a website called fertilitycommunity.com.
Some clinics consider anything over 10 to be high, some 15.
What protocol does your RE have you on and if you don't mind my asking how old are you?

Re: What does FSH really mean?
FsH is an indicator of how well you will respond to fertility drugs and also to some Dr's a measure of ovarian reserve. MANY women have gotten pregnant with high FSH. Type in high fsh in google and you will get lots of info

I am 35. This will be my 4th IUI. I had the first 3 using Clomid. This will be my first with injections. The dr. said to do 3 IUI's w/ injections and then talk IVF. He said he's not concerned with age, but the more the FSH #. They took blood yesterday and will again once the cycle actual starts. He did say if it was 14, then they don't even consider IVF.
Oh and what I just read on the internet said that anything 11-25 is considered borderline. So with such a big span and me being at the bottom (at least at this time), I'm not going to get crazy.

Re: What does FSH really mean?
I have high FSH - 12.something. DH had morphology issues. With both problems together, we were sent to do IVF (we did try one IUI but it was pretty pointless in our case).
Wheatgrass, acupuncture, and amma massage MAY help to lower your FSH - but my RE says that you never will recuperate those spent eggs so really your highest # is the truest, and best to work on that assumption.
That being said - we got pg on our second IVF. So there is definitely hope! You just will never be one of those women who produce 15 eggs with meds - if you get 3 or 4 good quality eggs that is great!
www.ivfconnections.com has a great board for this problem.
