What does it mean when a house is listed...
and it says 1/2 bedrooms? or 2/3??
When my aunt bought her house, she said it was listed 2/3 because the third bedroom didnt have a closet...
anybody else experience this??
(i really dont want to go see this house, because FH is going to talk me into buying it if it has 2!)

I've never seen 1/2 a bedroom or 2/3 bedroom - ever
but I guess if the reason is because it has no closet, that would make sense. at least they're honest about it.
we saw 1 house that had no closer in the master bedroom I've never seen that before (or since!) the lady had all of her clothes on garmnet racks and shoes all over the floor.

I have never seen that in a listing-- but can tell you Manhattan apts are listed like that a lot.. Like, a Junior 4, or Junior 1 BR, etc.
Basically-- it's another room that they feel compelled to call a 1/2 bedroom as opposed to den, office, etc. Probably because the seller thinks that the higher # of bedrooms can demand a higher sell price (even if it's a FRACTION)-- semantics

Re: What does it mean when a house is listed...
Technically, a room must have a closet to be called a bedroom. So, if a house has a room that could be used as a bedroom but has no closet, they list it with the slash - so you know you could use the room for any number of things, including a bedroom. I've seen several houses like this.

Re: What does it mean when a house is listed...
Growing up they used to refer to my house as a 4/5 bedroom house because the master could have been split to make a smaller master and an additional bedroom. i wonder if some people now call this a 4 1/2 bedroom house?

If that's true, then we only have one bedroom in our 3-bed house. Most turn of the century homes don't have closets - I guess they didn't have the clothes we have today.

Re: What does it mean when a house is listed...
We looked at a 2/3 bedroom house- the realtor mentioned that the third room had no closet so technically it was NOT a bedroom, but it could have been a bedroom.

Re: What does it mean when a house is listed...
In my FH's townhouse complex a lot of the houses had interior bedrooms (closets but no window) which is not a legal bedroom. But it never stopped people from listing it as a bedroom.....

I saw houses that didn't have a closet that they would call a 2/3 bedroom. And the other type of homes I've seen that they call the 2/3 bedrooms is when the other room is really really small. Like baby sized room where you can put a crib and dresser but a twin size bed would be crowded. My gf's house that she purchased this year was called a 2/3 bedroom b/c the garage was converted into a bedroom. Hope this helps.
