What does this mean? Questions about the doppler I just got.
I bought a hi bebe fetal doppler. I am 11 weeks today and just used it for the first time. I am so confused because the number jumps around like CRAZY and when it finally seems to find the heartbeat it is always in the 80's. Is it possible that I am picking up my own heartbeat? I definitely hear a heart beating but the numbers are freaking me out! Aren't the beats supposed to be betwen 120 and 160??

If it is in the 80's it probably means you are picking up your own.

Re: What does this mean? Questions about the doppler I just got.
You are prob finding your own heartbeat. At 11 weeks the baby's heartbeat should be double that.
Go REAL low, down in your pubic line near your bone and go really really slow. Remember the baby is really small if you move fast you could miss it.
The heartbeat sounds really fast, think of like horses galloping, that's what the heartbeat should sound like.
It may take you awhile to find it, but don't worry, it took me 15-20 in the early weeks to be able to find it.
Lay down completely flat too, and make sure you use plenty of gel.

Re: What does this mean? Questions about the doppler I just got.
You are most likely picking up your own HB. This was my problem with the doppler as well. Before the 12th week it is difficult to find the baby's HB. Then, when you finally do, the baby moves so quickly that you really don't get to listen.
If you are 11 weeks now, within a week or two you will be finding baby's HB more quickly and for longer periods of time.

Is it one of those $40 dopplers that you get at the store. I've heard they arent that great.

Re: What does this mean? Questions about the doppler I just got.
I did hear the bebe ones arent able to detect the HB until LATE...like 7/8 months?
You can pick up your own HB in many different spots.
It should be about 140 +.
mine is always 150+ and there is NO mistaking it. Its a very fast and somewhat loud beating.
It took me till a little after 12 weeks to find it... once the baby moved up higher.

You are picking up your own. The babies heartbeat is supposed to be 120 and above. I just got mine to from babybeat and i can def. tell the difference b/t my heartbeat and my little pooka's heartbeat.

Re: What does this mean? Questions about the doppler I just got.
OK I looked it up for you.
The bebe one you have can be used early...BUT its so cheap b/c its only 2mhz's( the higher the better....4 being the best) and the ones that are rented out are all 3mhz's
So its gonna be easier for us with rented ones, as they have a higher sensitivety.
I would give it 2-3 more weeks and you should be able to hear it well and find it more easily.

Re: What does this mean? Questions about the doppler I just got.
Here's a little hint, most of you noting your baby's heartbeat at the dr. are doing so through a sonogram right? Well, with the dopplers, typically you have to wait until after the 12th week or so. With my first, I had an appt. at 10 weeks and the nurse said, "we'll wait until your next appt. to look for the heartbeat, it's too early." [I didn't have any sonograms then.]
So, it might take some time to get there. Good luck.

Re: What does this mean? Questions about the doppler I just got.
Don't worry. At my 12 week appt they couldnt find the heartbeat, although I heard it at home at 10 weeks. They did find it with a sono (ultrascreen). It all depends on the placenta location (which could make it hard to hear) and baby location. Im sure all is fine.

Re: What does this mean? Questions about the doppler I just got.
i just posted how the dr. could not find the baby's HB at my 12 wk appt. it was worrying me while she tried and tried, we had to do a sono to see it instead. please don't wory. i know i am the very same way! my dr. said it was not unusual at all to not hear the HB right now too and that it was no surprise at all. i am sure you will find the HB very soon in the next few days!

Re: What does this mean? Questions about the doppler I just got.
I can find with the doppler the HB easier then my Dr could yesterday.
Goes to show how sensitive they are.
I would try like I said for hrs and hrs and couldnt find it....
They say after 12 and 1/2 week sis the best time, cause by then the baby will be out from your pubic bone and more in your lower belly( by your hair line)
