What does your PCP do?
I'm struggling with my PCP. When dealing with my DVTs and PEs, I realized that he will never make a diagnosis. Every answer is 'go to the ER' or 'goto a specialist'. It's really frustrating and I wonder whats the point of going to him.
I had some tests, and they are 90 percent positive. But he wont move me along to the next step until a pulmonologist gives their opinion.
I went to see him for bronchitis a few weeks ago; I knew everytime I had bronchitis before I need a steroid inhaler. I asked him for a script for it, he said no, lets see how it works out. 2 days later I was in the ER, and they were shocked he didn't give me a steroid inhaler.
So I'm considering switching once I'm thru this PE/DVT mess. But i'm wondering if all PCPs are this way? Do they just route you to a specialist or do they actually make a diagnosis and try to treat you?
TIA.

Re: What does your PCP do?
My internist has flagged a particular issue and told me to see a specialist for that issue ASAP.
Hope you feel better

Re: What does your PCP do?
They really aren't all like that. I'm in a similar boat. Looking for yet another PCP because everyone I've seen since living out here does absolutely nothing. Always "Go to a specialist". I think they are just the middle man and an additional copay just so you CAN get a referral and go to a specialist. My dr. in Brooklyn was awesome. I almost NEVER went to a specialist. He took care of everything and I always felt good.
I was just looking at another post and a few girls mentioned Dr. Eric Last in Wantagh, I asked them is he is a Dr. that just pushes you to specialists or he actually treats. Waiting on a response.
I feel your pain.
