Re: What exactly happens with the RE?
When we went for our first appt., they took detailed history from me & DH. They did a sonogram, scheduled DH for SA, scheduled both of us for blood tests and I had to go for an HSG xray.

Re: What exactly happens with the RE?
O, so it's an appointment for both of you??? Or is it really a case by case basis?

Re: What exactly happens with the RE?
I know friends who have gone without their DH's but eventually DH had to get some tests done. I just figured it was easier for both of us to go right away.

ITs really best for you both to go - the doctor will want to know both your histories, and you will both have to have testing done.
At my first appointment, we sat down with doctor, discussed our histories and what our next steps would be. I also got about 10 vials of blood drawn. DH went for his SA about a week later, and I had CD3 tests done when AF came.

exactly! My husband also had a panel of bloodwork run too... not quite as much though. They also did a sono and culture swab on me.

Re: What exactly happens with the RE?
I went alone my first appointment - we went through my history for about a half hour. Then they did an ultrasound and bloodwork and then I sat down with the RE to discuss our plan of attack.
She scheduled me for CD3 bloodwork, a post-coital, an HSG and an MRI because the ultrasound showed a small cyst on my ovary.
She had me start tracking my cycle with the CBEFM and charting so she could get an idea of what was going on, and had me start coming in about once a week to have blood drawn for various tests.

Re: What exactly happens with the RE?
Thanks everyone. I think I will go alone, since our situation is slightly different-- and my gyno is sending me cause of all this weird spotting and a potentially short LP.

Good luck!!
FYI - They will still send your DH for testing. They want to be aware of all potential issues before starting treatment.

Re: What exactly happens with the RE?
I went myself also. Eventually DH will probably be tested. Depends on what you do. My GYN did a lot of bloodwork (genetic testing etc..) and sent me for the HSG. That is why she sent me to the RE. We actually had a lot of the testing completed before we went to see the RE. But, they usually do everything. They are very systematic. Everyone though is different.

Re: What exactly happens with the RE?
My DH had already had an SA before we were patients at NSUH, but coincidentally he did it at NSUH so he didn't need to repeat it.
For me, because my issue was not my cycle, but an anatomical problem, I had an internal and was recommended for CD3 bloodwork.
My surgery was planned and booked that day for about 2 or three weeks later - BAM BAM BAM BOOM!

Re: What exactly happens with the RE?
I had similar issue as you - irregular cycles and mid-cycle spotting. The RE will probably strart with CD3 and CD21 (or in my case, 7 dpo) bloodwork. I also had a water sono and a hsg done. The dr. wanted me to start fertility drugs to make me ovulate earlier and regulate my cycles, but we never got that far... I ended up getting pregnant naturally 1 month after the hsg.

Re: What exactly happens with the RE?
But okay.. what if we are being referred from dh's urologist and all the male tests have been done. Does he need to take off another day to go with me??? I guess it would be nice for him to be there. But if he can't off, is it nessecary.. I guess it is.

Did your DH ever get tested? Or was it talked about with your Doc? Obviously, you didn't get that far... just wondering what I need to prepare DH for!

Its not absolutely necessary. If he can't get the day off, its fine for you to go alone. Like you said, it would be nice, but they can get the info they need from him at a later time if necessary - same thing for you Randi. Best of luck to both of you

Re: What exactly happens with the RE?
I had to fill out ALOT of forms about my medical history and DH's. We both went to the appt.
I had an HSG done before I saw him with another dr. so I didn't have to repeat that, Thankfully! I did alot of bloodwork, DH had a SA and I had some sonograms. We didn't have to do a post coital test b/c of our test results on other things and knew we were going straight to IUI w/clomid.

My DH did only 2 types of testing, as compared to my 100 tests (ok slight exaggeration). He gave a vial of blood for genetic testing and a semen sample in a sterile cup at home. Believe me, the guys have it easy when it comes to all of this.
