What food/drink did you serve at DC's first birthday?
I'm having his party in the backyard and I went from having a BBQ, to having the pizzeria cater it. Now I'm thinking 6 ft hero, baked ziti, salads.
If you had a party for DC's 1st birthday, what did you serve and how many people did you have? Did you do the cooking or have it catered?
Thanks for the help!

We had it catered. Baked ziti, gemelli pasta with artichokes and sundried tomatoes, barbeque ribs, eggplant parmagian, chicken franchaise and meatballs. Green salad and rolls. Cake and fruit.

We had about 17 people. We had 3 hot dishes and a hero. It was catered. The hot dishes I believe were Penne A la vodka, Eggplant Rolatini and I think chicken francaise. My MIL made a huge green salad.

We had 15 people - we did chips and various dips (spinach, guacamole and salasa my aunt made who was visiting from TX,) veggies and dips, hamburgers, kielbasa, sliced grilled steak, grilled vegetables, bbq chicken, salads (potato, etc), a mixed green salad.
Followed by cake, cookies and fruit

We had a ton of people -- DH grilled dogs, sausages and burgers. We served Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Macaroni Salad, Baked Beans, Sauerkraut, Pickles, Green Salad....
Plenty of food and people enjoyed a simple BBQ

We made all the food ourselves. We had a cold-cut platter and rolls for people to make sandwhiches. Baked ziti, chicken franchaise, roasted potatos, chicken fingers and mini pizza bagels.

We had a luau theme so the best I could come up with was catered chinese food. I got fruity type chinese dishes. Unfortunately I forget exactly how much we ordered.

Exactly what we did. We had wine, coolers with beer and a full bar and just let people mix their own. It was self serve all the way.
We cooked everything ourselves..except the heros and the cake.
I want to say we had about 60 people? (maybe)

That is the question of the week. DD's party is Saturday. We too went from a BBQ to hot food & hamburgers/hot dogs to this:
Baked Ziti Sausage & Peppers Hot dogs Baked Beans Chicken nuggets (kids) french fries/or tator tots
Cold pasta salad macaroni/potato/cole slaw
Tossed Green salad
8 foot hero
My MIL is making all the hot stuff!
We're having about 50 adults & 20 kids

We are expecting abot 60 as well. ARe you doing one tray of each? and then you're keeping them warm with the sternos?
NOW I'm thinking of having: 8 foot hero 2 trays baked ziti 1 tray sausage and peppers 1 tray chicken franchaise 1 tray mac n cheese (kids) 1 tray chicken fingers/nuggets
green salad potato salad macaroni salad rice and beans
Let me know how your party goes... I'm sure it will go perfectly and it will be a blast!

Re: What food/drink did you serve at DC's first birthday?
We had around 50 people including kids.
The food was catered. DH has a friend that owns a catering business. They went to school together. We had: Baked Ziti Penne Alla Vodka Eggplant Parm Chicken Parm Chicken w/artichokes and sundried Tomatoes Veal Marsala Sausage and Peppers Broccoli Rabe
3 Ft Hero in the shape of a 1 and then another 3ft hero (not in the shape of a 1) Tossed Salad Potato Salad Macaroni Salad Tortellini Salad Cole Slaw
We ended up having a lot of food cuz DH's friend threw in a lot of extras...

Re: What food/drink did you serve at DC's first birthday?
This is currently my dilemma too. DD's 1st birthday party is july 26 at our house/backyard. Originally we planned on a full BBQ, that changed and right now I am leaning towards
Penne ala vodka Sausage and peppers Chicken cutlets sliced steak corn on the cob ribs? mac and cheese for the kids (green salad, pasta salad and possibly potato salad)
For appitizers we were doing veggies and dip, chips and dips, pigs in a blanket, BBQ wings, tomato and mozzeralla
However I am not 100% sure of this and kinda like the hero option as well with some hot food.
We are having around 60-70 people and if we do just hot food were thinking around 2 trays of each

Re: What food/drink did you serve at DC's first birthday?
we had it catered. We didn't have enough seating for everone- so I didn't want to get anything that had to be cut or that you HAD to sit down.
So we had an antipasta assorted foccachia breads and mini pizzas chicken fingers for the kids a pasta w/ chicken & veggies for adults assortment of wraps and sandwiches for the adults (roastbeef, grilled veggie, chicken salad, turkey, etc). big green salad.

Re: What food/drink did you serve at DC's first birthday?
we're doing a BBQ.
I hired a guy to come with a gigantic grill. He supplies all food and paper goods and he cooks and cleans up. I think we're having burgers, hotdogs, sausage&peppers, chicken and crab cakes.
I'm going to make potato, macaroni and pasta salad. And probably have some chips and dip.
Not sure what else we're making yet.
Then cake, cupcakes and fruit platter and maybe cookies.
Oh, and snow cones.
ETA - as for drinks we're planning on water, soda, beer and wine. And then coffee.
