What gives - after a week of excellent potty training? Is this normal?
Today he has almost exclusively had accidents, hasnt told me once that he has to go, he just does, then cries. I asked him why hes not telling mommy, and he said "bc I dont want to." Everytime I ask him if he wants to sit on the potty (which I havent had to do in several days) he just says "noooo, I dont want to sit on the potty".
What do I do? He was doing so well, recognizing when he had to go, was telling us he had too, doing #1 and #2 on the potty. Even telling us once he was in bed with a pull up on and sleeping.
Is this normal? I dont know what to do? Im hesitant to go back to diapers, but he really doesnt seem on board AT ALL today? What gives?
This is so FRUSTRATING! I hate potty training.

Are you giving him any sort of a reward when he goes on the potty? I found that really helps Lily. She also gets really annoyed if we ask her if she has to go. She likes it to be on her terms.

Re: What gives - after a week of excellent potty training? Is this normal?
i am so there with you. although my DD is 3. she trained relatively quicky about 2 weeks ago going #1 and no accidents since with that. took her an extra week to do #2 which she finallllllly seemed to nail down. thought we were free and clear! not so. today out of the blue she has gone #2 in her underwear twice and it didnt' seem like an accident either. she just did it and told me so i was even more annoyed. i would have been more "understanding" if she didn't seem to mean it, but it seemed deliberate so weird. my sister who has 5 kids of her own says it's totally normal for them to regress a bit soon after potty training and that it should go back to normal. sorry i am not much help! hoping more btdt moms can offer advice!

It's such a process--I would try really stepping up the positive reinforcement---maybe a prize if he stays dry all morning or something? I think it's normal, some kids regress when the whole excitement of big kid pants wears off KWIM?

It's unrealistic to expect a newly trained child to stay dry all morning to get a reward. I would give him something EACH time he goes on the toilet. Maybe an M&M or a sticker if you don't want to go the candy route.
Regression is normal, but I would under no circumstances put him back in a diaper.

he just peed on the rug again, about 30 seconds AFTER I asked him if he needed to sit on the potty. Im going to lose my cool in about 2 minutes.

You can't let him see that you're frustrated! Reward him when he does well, and don't yell if he has an accident. It's a learning process, and he's bound to make mistakes!

Re: What gives - after a week of excellent potty training? Is this normal?
Im not, I want too, LOL, but I havent. I have cleaned up more liquids than I care to have today......he has peed 5xs on the floor, #2 once, then the pipe under my sink came loose and flooded the kitchen, then DS spilt his chocolate milk and then later, he purposely turned his fruit punch juice box upside down and squeezed it out onto the carpet. Add that to the 50 dead yellow jackets I discovered in his playroom today that I had to clean up....
Im just at my wits end from cleaning up messes overall today.
He is being rewarded, we have an entire bag on new matchbox cars, he gets to pick from everytime he makes it to the potty, along with lots of praise and high fives, and a sticker chart.
He just doesnt want any part of it today.
Thanks!!!
