What happens after you get pg

What happens to all the people who had problems TTC beforehand once they get pg (this question particularly about PCOS and hormone problems like low progesterone)? Does your body sometimes correct itself, or are you required to continue taking meds to regulate hormones and such the entire pregnancy? I'm curious--I've thought so much about getting to that point, I hadn't yet thought about what happens after it.

That is a good question. I never really thought about the PcOS part. Why I haven't asked my doctor is beside me? I cannot believe I haven't asked him. So I am curious to know.

Funny, DH asked me the other night: "Are you on Metformin for the rest of your life?"

And I didn't have an answer for him. Chat Icon

Re: What happens after you get pg

I dont know about the PCOS but I know for me I have (or maybe I had) one blocked tube and a seriously tilted uterus among other things...my RE told me that those 2 things could very well 'fix' themselves once I got PG and had the baby. I guess time will tell when I start to TTC again. I have cervical stenosis too but I dont think that will be helped at all.

I didn't have PCOS either but it took 18 months to conceive due to a polyp and endometriosis, which I needed to have surgery for. My Dr. said that due to the history if infertility, I'd be monitored more closely and he wouldn't let me go past my due date.

Re: What happens after you get pg

I didn't have PCOS, but I only have 1 tube and a unicornia uterus (and 1 kidney which I found out during all the fertility tests). When I was released from the RE and met with my OBGYN...he said to me on my first visit (at 11 weeks), that it didn't matter how I got here...but I was here now, and he didn't see any reason for me not to have a normal healthy pregnancy. So far...I'm doing great. I've had no issues, no m/s, feel great...I chalk it up to all that I went through to get PG, I was owed an easy pregancy!

In my case after we found we were PG i stayed on the progesterone till I was about 10 weeks. Was monitored by my RE up until my 8th week (approx) and then released to my OB at that point.

I think every case is different.

It took my mom 5 years to conceive meChat Icon and this was from 1964-1969 (she was 24-29) when infertility treatments were just a dream in Dr. Rosenfeld's headChat Icon No POAS or anything. Based upon what my father has told me I think she had PCOS. I only found out recently from my aunt (my mo died when I was 8) that she miscarried that first year and then later had me. After she gave birth to me her periods were regular like clockwork until she was 38, when she passed away. She had no problem conceiving my brother two years after giving birth to me.

Some doctors have said the same might happen for me but:
1. I'm older, almost 36.
2. environmental factors- pollution, hormones in food I believe play a part and are a lot worse now
3. Stress- not saying my mom had it good but life was simplier back then, I teach and take a lot of work home with me, have a commute and still have to care for my disabled dad. We definitely have more stress in our lives today.

I think every case is different.

Re: What happens after you get pg

Interesting pespectives...thanks ladies. I had read some people say that after they finally got pg, their body seemed to regulate itself and had normal periods after and were able to get pg easily. I find that amazing...for all we've learned, I think the body is still such a mystery sometimes.

The gist I got about Metformin was that I'd be on it till I went back on BC and one day was I was much older and stopped BC, around menopause or whatever, that I'd go back on Metformin (but I don't trust the doc that told me that). But I had not idea if I would still be on Metformin while pg and if I have a progesterone problem, if I'd have to be one something for that too. Thanks again.
