What happens when they learn to sit up in the crib

Jack figured out that he can sit up in his crib now. Instead of taking a nap - he is just sitting up - staring into the video monitor as if to say "mom - can you get me the heck out of here"

Does this phase go away? Please tell me that I'm not going to have to go in there and lay him back down bc they will bring on a war! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

If they weren't crying I left them in there to amuse themselves and they'd eventually fall asleep.

We always just left her and she would eventually lay down and go to sleep. As long as he's not crying I would let him figure out how to go to sleep.

OK thanks! I made the mistake of going in there yesterday after about 45 minutes because I figured he just wasn't tired - and that created a monster for the rest of the day. I cannot have a repeat of yesterday! Chat Icon Chat Icon

As long as he's not hysterical, let him be. Even if he doesn't nap, he's atleast getting some quiet, rest time.

I still rock/hold Lucas to sleep and put him in the crib that way so I know that is no help but...

When he wakes he eventually sits up and I leave him that way until he stands and screams at the door for me. So if Jack is quiet I would say leave him and see if he will go back down on his own.

ugh - ok - now he is sitting up and crying. I don't know what to do. Just when you get into a great routine they up and change it on you. I HATE hearing him cry!

If you can CIO I would let him cry. He will stop and go to sleep. You will have the same problem when he learns to stand too so be prepared. I also leave them if their cribs if they are not crying.

Re: What happens when they learn to sit up in the crib

Welcome to my world.

It does become..well for us it did..a new trick to try to do often Chat Icon

But at night I can lay him back down and it takes a few minutes to get him back to sleep.

But he will jump to sit up ( and or stand) the second he wakes up.

Depends on how tired he is.

I read in a book that usually it does pass once the new "trick" has worn out....

Right now its new and they like the different view so its like let me do this again and again. Chat Icon

If he is like DD then you are in trouble. I can't put her down awake now she just crawls from one side of the crib to the other - or is pulling up and cruising around her crib back and forth and back and forth. Once she started sitting up in the crib that was it for us. Just imagine what happens now when she wakes up in the middle of the night and thinks it is play timeChat Icon
