What holiday traditions will you pass down to your kids?
I know its prob been asked...but I'd love to hear about everyones traditions. I love this time of year, and my mom always managed to make it really special for all 6 of us
-She always filled candy dishes with chocolate on christmas eve so when we woke up we thought santa did it
-We baked cookies the night before and left them for Santa. We also left carrots for the reindeer, lol.
-Christmas morning we always always had to wait upstairs until everyone was awake and then we were allowed to run down at the same time. It was chaos but I loved it.
I will do these things with Johnny, DH and any other future babies we may be blessed with...tell me yours!

we bake hanukkah cookies every year - sugar cookies that we decorate to the hills. We make enough to feed the country of Israel - it's messy and fun!!!

We always had to stay in our room until my sister and I both were awake. We would bang on the walls to make sure we were both up. I am going to start the same. All the kids have to come out at the same time.
I also already started my own. Like the Elf on the Shelf, cookies for Santa, holiday candy making, and getting to open one present Christmas Eve from mommy and daddy

Santa hides the Christmas Pickle(ornament) on the tree and whoever finds it gets an extra gift. So far DD has always found it I think there might be a brawl when this one is born

Other than the chocolate(my mom was a health nut freak) we had all the same traditions. My favorite was waiting upstairs until my Dad got the movie camera set up(yes, I am old). There was a big bright light as we walked down the stairs so you couldn't even see the gifts. It was all so exciting
I am a little sad that we live in a one story house and my children won't experience this.

*Gingerbread houses. We make one every year.
*Picking one new ornament each every year.
*I would like to start making cookies for Santa the night before, now that my daughter is old enough to sort of help.

Leaving cookies for Santa.
Everybody gets new PJs to wear on Christmas eve. I remember it was always so exciting to put them on after our bath, knowing what was going to happen soon.
I would like to start going to midnight mass instead of going in the morning. We always did this as kids, and it was so much fun. No wonder my Mom was always so tired on Christmas morning.

Re: What holiday traditions will you pass down to your kids?
Traditions we are passing down:
Cookies for Santa that we will hopefully bake together
Driving around to see all of the houses in the neighborhood decorated...listening to Christmas music and drinking warm cocoa
New Traditions: Hanging the key for Santa on the front door Key
Leaving a small present for each child by their bed (will start this year with DS)
Since 2000 when we got back from school, DH and I always go to see the tree in Manhattan so this year we will take DS.

-We will leave cookies for Santa.
-We will open gifts Christmas AM in our pajamas, (Christmas music playing in the background) then have breakfast, then get dressed for the day.
-We will all come downstairs together.
-We open gifts one at a time so we can share the expressions of what everyone got.

Guys, I'm curious, what is the deal w/ hiding a Christmas pickle...never heard of it. Is it from a certain nationality?
Personally we're going to:
Make Christmas cookies/candy together
Drive around & look at Christmas lights & then have hot chocolate/Christmas cookies
Buy baby a new ornament each year & give it to her when she gets married
Go to our town's tree lighting ceremony & see Santa
Read Twas the Night Before Christmas
Take a nap on Christmas Eve & when they wake up see that Santa left their stockings full. (My parents did this w/ us & then we'd have to wait & run down the stairs together & they'd take a pic & Christmas music would be playing & everything was lit)
Have Santa come on Christmas Eve after dinner
Save one last big gift for Christmas Day

Re: What holiday traditions will you pass down to your kids?
Christmas Pickle:
In Old World Germany, the last decoration placed on the Christmas tree was always a pickle... carefully hidden deep in the boughs. Legend has it that the observant child who found it on Christmas Day was blessed with a year of good fortune... and a special gift!
We just started this tradition about 5 years ago when my mom came across the ornament and the story in a christmas tree ornament shop.
