What I saw at the market
I was on an insanely long line at teh 1 Trader Joes in the city. I see a little boy about 2 or 3 years old in a stoller behind me. I notice the man who works at Trader Joes holding the "line ends here" sign, pushing the stroller. Then I see a young woman of a different race than the child pushing the stroller with her cart. I ask her if the boy is with her and she says no.  The much older mom (not uncommon in NYC) apparantly put her child in the line and left. About 5 minutes later, she comes back for a second- and then leaves again. This happened three times during the 15 minutes we were on line. Even my DH noticed it and was shocked.
I wanted to say something, but I hate it when mom's are so harsh and embarass other moms. I didn't want to embarass this woman. I feel that the whole world is so harsh on moms (working moms v. SAHM moms/ BF vs. formula/ etc....) I cam thisclose to saying, "be careful. there are a lot of crazies out there", but I ended up saying nothing.

I can't believe she would think that is OK. How can you just leave your child and expect them to be safe when you come back.
That is true stupidity IMO.
