What is the best agency to pull your credit?
This is what I have been dreading to do and I have to suck it up and just do it. I don't owe debt but have had some issues in the past. I need to deal with it and just bite the bullet.
Any suggestions?
I wasn't really sure about Freecreditreport.com
TIA!!!!

This is not a scam, but freecreditreport is. You can get your report for free once per year through Annual Credit Report. You won't get your number for free but if your concern is what's on the report, you shouldn't need it.

freecreditreport.com is not a scam. It's run by Experian which is one of the three major credit reporting agencies.

Then they need to read the fine print before they click sign up.
You can pull a free report from freecreditreport.com without paying anything. I have done it. They also give you 14 days free trial for their service so you can pull all three reports AND your scores. Then cancel before the trial period is up.
Annualcreditreport.com does the same thing, tries to sign you up for their service to give you the scores.

Ok pardon, freecreditreport.com isn't a scam - it's a company that is banking on you not reading about the monthly fee for signing up for a bs service.
May not be a scam but it's definitely scummy and not something I would recommend to people.

Re: What is the best agency to pull your credit?
I like to use myfico.com...I pay $12 to get the score every other month or so. I like that it's super user-friendly. It tells you all the good, the bad, and also has a score simulator.
And once a year I get my report through annualcreditreport.com.
As much as you may not want to do it, the best thing you can do is see your report and score and start working on it asap. My credit score went from a 440 (when I was 19ish I decided to charge everything, and not pay) all the way up to a 760, which is where it is now. Thats over 300 points! This took a good 5 years, but I never would have been able to improve my credit unless I saw it in paper.

Re: What is the best agency to pull your credit?
I've used freecreditreport tons of times (once a year...) just make sure you cancel it in the alloted time before you're charged again...
never had a problem, since I knew about this to be begin with... and they're pretty upfront about it. They let you know when you're signing up how long the *free trial* is.

this happened to us. we didn't know we signed up for them to charge us monthly until we saw the charges on our cc statement.
i would use the gov't site instead of freecreditreport.com

Re: What is the best agency to pull your credit?
We use truecredit.com We pay a monthly fee and can log in whenever we want, we do it weekly and keep track of our credit scores.
True credit gives u your scores from the Top 3 agencies, experian, transunion and one other i forget the name DH has his credit locked, so no one can try to take out a credit card under his name. If someone tried it would be denied and he would be contacted asap.

Re: What is the best agency to pull your credit?
I put a fraud alert on my credit every 3 months with equifax and I usually get to view my credit report at that time for free.
Basically, the fraud alert says that no one can open up any new credit in my name unless the issuer calls my house phone (or whatever phone I specify or they can do it in writing) and I confirm that it was me. It's an extra step and a bit of a hassle to open up cards/accounts, but it's worth it.
