What is the best shrub to plant against fence for privacy
I am cutting down a tree that gives us some privacy from our neighbor's yard and want to plant shrubs along the 6ft fence. What is the best for me to plant?

How tall do you want them to get? I love Leyland Cypress for privacy but they grow tall and bushy.

How tall do you want them to get? I love Leyland Cypress for privacy but they grow tall and bushy.
I want them quite a bit beyond my six foot fence. The taller the better. I guess if worse came to worse, I could have someone come and trim every so often if they get bushy. My house is very close to my neighbor and I don't have much property and looking for privacy. What exactly do these look like?

Emerald Green arborvitaes - they grow taller than 6' but not too tall and they don't have a large diameter so they won't encroach on your property.
If you're considering trimming, then forget arborvitaes. I dont believe hey fill back in after they've been trimmed.
We also have Spring Grove arborvitaes, which get taller and wider, but I don't believe they get as big as Leyland Cypresses.

I have Leland cypress for privacy. I bought the really small and now they are really tall. We trim them back and top them off on top if they get too tall.

our neighbor just cut down all of their privacy bushes on their side of the chain link fence between our property, so the next weekend we put up 10 of these along the same fence on our side..i love them so much we're planning on eventually bordering our entire back yard with them (1/3 of an acre)..it works out much cheaper than putting up a new fence and it seems more lush to me

you can plant them now (fall) or spring. We've done both seasons with no problem.

we just got some at home depot, but they'll take awhile to grow up-they're about 4 feet tall right now, but we only paid 30/each
