What is the daily routine for your 8 week old?

DS is 8 weeks old and has fallen into a routine. He wakes around 6 am to feed then falls asleep again until 9:00ish. He eats at 9:30, then plays until 10:15. He naps until 12:00ish, waking to eat. He then eats again around 3:30 and 7:00. After this last feeding, he doesn't usually want to sleep until around 10:00. Chat Icon He then sleeps until 12:30, waking to eat. He falls asleep immediately after feeding, waking at 6 am to start all over again.

Does this sound "normal" to you? Do you think we should be trying to get him to sleep earlier than 10 pm after the 7:00 feeding? It just seems so late to me. I should add that DS is not at all a fussy baby and never seems overtired. This is just me being a worry wart. Chat Icon What is/was the schedule for your 8 week old?

TIA!!

My DS is also 8 weeks old. I can't say he has a totally predictable and set routine yet. It is always changing. Currently, my DS goes to bed between 7 and 9 pm. We have been putting him into his crib at that time to try to establish a bed time. He has been pretty good with it and usually sleeps through the night, up to 9 hours straight. So, he usually wakes up between 3 and 5 am to feed. He falls back asleep for another hour or two, and then he's awake for most of the day, except a few scattered tiny naps and one to two longer naps (half hour to hour).

What is your DS doing between his 7 pm feeding and 10? My DS gets sleepy right after he eats, so we try to rush him to bed and swaddle him before he wakes up again. Do you try to put him into his crib to see if he will fall asleep right after he eats? If that doesn't work, maybe you could try gradually putting him down earlier and earlier - like 10, 9:45, 9:30, etc.

Truthfully, at 8 weeks old anything sounds normal to me. Chat Icon I didn't even worry about a schedule or a routine or anything with my DD at that age. She was too little and unpredictable and was constantly changing. The only sure thing with her was that she wanted a bottle exactly every 3 hrs. Sometimes she would be awake till 10pm. Sometimes she would sleep after most bottles. Sometimes she would have a bottle at 10pm and not sleep again until after her next bottle at 1am. It all just depended on her and what she needed and wanted.

At 3 months old (ON HER OWN) she started going to bed at 10pm and sleeping until 9am. Then at 4 months old (ON HER OWN AGAIN) she started going to bed right after her 7pm bottle and sleeping until 7am. At 11 months old she's on the same schedule.

Babies will tell you what they need and when. At 8 weeks I would just go with the flow and not stress so much over it. Your DC sounds just fine to me. Chat Icon

Thanks for responding ladies! You both made me feel better! I think I got caught up reading sleep books and what DS is "supposed" to be sleeping at this point and I got nervous that he wasn't sleeping for longer than the 5 hour stretch between 1 and 6. My other problem is that I was comparing him to my friend's DC who is the same age and apparently already STTN. So...I tried changing up his routine yesterday and he woke up at 4 am instead. Chat Icon I need to just go back to his original routine and figure "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Right?

True that sister......Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon If it ain't broke leave it alone. Chat Icon I really believe that babies know waaaaaaaaay better than us what they need and want and when. At least that is what I have found with my DD. Just roll with it and as long as he's not a fussy baby he'll find his own groove and routine. Down the road when he's a little older you can always try routines and schedules if need be but at 8 weeks he sounds like he's doing great! Chat Icon

I think a lot depends on your lifestyle. I have to get up early once I go back to work so having DS go to sleep early is important to me so I can get some things done before I need to go to bed. DS currently goes to bed at 10 weeks between 7 and 730. His bedtime will most likely be 7 pm.
