What is the right thing to do? Ettiquette related.

The Recruiting Team at my company gave me a thank you gift for all the help I've provided this past year, I'm the only person that received this gift--its a container of different chocolates, nuts, etc., all of which I don't like/want to eat.

Is it rude to put the treats in the kitchen for everyone to take (I often bring in baked goodies and leave in the kitchen and everything gets eaten) or should I just leave the box open at my desk and invite people to eat them at my desk even though I really don't have time to have guests stop by and chit chat? My close colleague thought it was rude to leave in the kitchen because it was a present to me, not the whole company.

What would you do?

Your present = you get to do what you want with it.

I don't think I would put everything out because then it might come across as 'why did we give it to her if she isn't going to use it'.

I'd leave it out at my desk. Or just give it to someone else. I wouldn't put it in the kitchen.

I would not put it in the kitchen. It could possibly be considered a discarded gift. I would put it on your desk or bring it home to put out at a dinner / party occasion.

I wouldnt put it in the kitchen. When I get something I dont like (food wise) I usually send it to work with DH or my Dad to share with their co-workers so no one knows.

I'd keep it on your desk and as people pass you by you can offer them a piece of chocolate.

As others have said, I'd keep it open on my desk and offer to those who pass.

At the end of the week, I'd put it in the kitchen to offer whatever is leftover.

Thanks guys! There is an open desk across from me so I put it out there (there is no room for this giant box on my desk anyways!) and when people pass, I tell them to take some. The box is getting smaller and smaller thank goodness!

I wouldn't put it in the kitchen. I'd either leave it open at my desk, or bring it home and take it to the next family party or something.

ETA: Or, you could just give it to me.

In my office we put it in the kitchen for everyone to share. Here, if it's on your desk it's yours alone unless an email is sent around saying otherwise.

Since it's a gift from someone else in the company, I wouldn't put it out to share. If it was from an outside client or vendor I would share.
