Temping is taking your basal body temperature, which is when you first wake up. By temping, you can pinpoint your exact day of ovulation. You'll see a rise in your tempurature, which will last until you are about to get your period.

When I first started TTC, I did the tutorial at fertiltyfriend.com. It helped me so much.

I'm not doing it, but here's what I know:

Temping is taking your temperature with a basal body thermometer and charting the temperatures.

Shift in temperature can indicate that ovulation has occurred.

From what I understand, it can tell you that ovulation has happened (can't predict when it will happen though).

So it's not using a regular thermometer?

No. You have to buy a basal body thermometer. I bought mine at CVS for $10.

it also gives you an indication of how long your luteal phase is, if you are ovulating or not, and if pregnant or if AF is coming

It helped my RE make sure that there were no issues in my cycle. It accurately showed when I ovulated every month I did it. The only draw back to temping, for me, was waking up at 5:30 on the weekends and holidays because it must be done at the same time each and every day.
