Sounds exactly like teething. DS did this at 4 months also, fussy drool, didn't want to eat, had trouble sleeping, etc. It passed after a couple weeks and he popped a tooth at 6 months (they take awhile to appear sometimes).

You can call your pediatrician if you suspect anything else. Ear pulling can be an infection or it can be teething.

Cold washcloths to chomp on were big with DS, so was a teething ring. I think Hyland's tablets have belladonna in them (though check the label, I may not be remembering this correctly), so I skipped that. And Orajel can cause choking at times. If the pain seemed bad, I gave him Infant Tylenol, but that wasn't often.

S got his 2 bottom teeth at 4months, it sounds exactly like Luce's symptoms; no tugging ears or fever at all; I simply elevated his mattress (he was still in the bassinette at that point) - I rolled a towel and placed it under the mattress... It totally worked. Laying flat is painful for teethers, as the blood "pools" in the gums and throbs; elevating helps prevent that!!!

Sorry prego crashing here...I like to notebook all these great threads for future reference!
Anyway...my sisters made me register for this wedge thing that sounds like what you are doing with the towel. It says to put this wedge on top of mattress but under sheet...I believe my sister said she actually puts it under the mattress like you do with the towel...just wanted to share.

thanks everyone.

I gave him Tylenol last night per my ped (who also thinks its teething) and he seemed better.

he's nursed all night but it still having trouble going down for naps (my MIL is trying to snake charm him now...apparently only his father has this particular gift to walk him to sleep in his arms Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon )

thank you for all of the wonderful tips. I have a washcloth in the freezer, his teething rings in the fridg and ice cubes at the ready. I already had his crib elevated but glad to know that could also be helpful (I've also altered my nursing hold keeping this blood poolling gum issue in mind)

and to tall the babies (and moms) also dealing with this right now....FEEL BETTER!!!!!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

thanks again!

(and Liza, no blisters, rash...nada like that. Chat Icon Chat Icon )

wow I could've written this myself. I took Liam to the Dr. and no ear infection, nothing. She said she thinks he's refluxing b/c I said he just started spitting up with each bottle, not much but it's new. But I don't see how or why he'd develop reflux now and all of a sudden when there's been no change in his diet? I asked about teething and she thought it was too soon

I'd say teething for sure.

Try putting teethers in the freezer and then giving the to him. Or a damp cold wash cloth. We did the hylands teething tablets too.
