What is your 5 month old eating?

Hi everyone!!

What is your 5 month old eating right now? I don't think i am giving him enough solids. I give him 2 tsps of cereal in the am and 1/3 jar of fruit in the afternoon. He gets a bottle with each meal but i am seeing that some of you give your kids the whole jar and i just want to make sure i am doing the right thing. DS's doc told us what to do for the first two weeks of solids but not much beyond that.

DS gets cereal at night with how ever much fruit or veggie he wants. Some nights he eats half, sometimes a third and sometimes a whole one.

We haven't given cereal in the morning yet b.c DS still gets two bottles during the night, so he isn't really interested in eating much until after 1pm He probably eats 6oz total from when he wakes up at 7am until then.

i give DS his solids along w milk during each feeding (except for night time). i started feeding him (at 5mths) cereal during the morning. then morning and night. then gradually increased it to every meal time. i only feed him his solids until he's tight lipped. i dont' like forcing him to eat anymore. my baby was born prematurely and i had to force feed him during every meal. it was not pleasant but of course, at the time, i had to. now it's jsut until he feels full. ds is now 7mos.

*i feed him mostly vegs. and i mix the solids with some rice cereal.

I have a little porker on my hands.... He's 22lbs and will be 6 months on Wed. Jayden eats 1 jar of fruit mid morning and 1 jar of veggies in the evening. Sometimes, I'll give him 1Tbsp of cereal, but he doesn't care too much for it.

Emma is almost 6 mos old and eats cereal for breakfast at daycare and either cereal, a fruit or a veggie for dinner. She eats about a half container of a stage 1. As long as your DC is drinking plenty of formula, I wouldn't worry about the solid foods so much. They get their nutrition from the formula.

Lunch she gets 3 tablespoons of cereal OR yogurt and one stage 1 fruit or veggie. repeat at dinner time.

I think you already know TJ's schedule, but here it is if it helps written out:


8 am: 2 tbsp. cereal & bottle
11 am: jar of fruit & bottle
2 pm: bottle
5 pm: jar of veggies & bottle
8 pm: bottle

I started out giving DS 1/2 jars of fruits and veggies but at his 5 mo. check up the dr said to give him the whole jar. The whole jar is equivalent to maybe 2 tbsp. so the same as the cereal.
