What is your opinion on making Sept 11th

a National Holiday?

I've been hearing alot of talk about this over the past week. I have to say that I don't agree with making it a National Holiday.

I feel it will go the way of the Memorial & Labor days - where people remember the days because its a day that stores have super sales or day off from work. Not a day to remember those who lost their lives on that day or risked their lives.

Like the Anniversary of Pearl Harbor, I think it will always be remembered, but I don't think it should be made into a national holiday.

I personally don't think it should be made a federal holiday.

Pearl Harbor was never declared a federal holiday, and just as much of an impact in changing the world as it was known as 9-11 did.

I also don't know if 9-11 will take on the commercial appeal that other holidays do, because it is about a specific event.

Labor Day and Memorial Day are days of general observance. The more general something is, the harder it is to connect to it.

I think eventually 9-11 will fall into history the way that 12-7 has.

I don't agree with it. I don't think Sept 11th will ever be just another day for many of us. It's not the first time we were attacked - Pearl Harbor Day is commemorated but it's a working day.

There is nothing wrong with commemorating the lives lost, but I feel like to make it a Federal or State holiday allows the terrorists, that attempted to stop our nation, destroy our financial markets (along with many lives) and made us fearful, win on some small level.
