What is your schedule like?
I know they say that there's never a 'perfect time' to have a baby... there's always going to be something. But, i'm curious what else everyone 'has on their plates'.. and if they feel comfortable with that schedule once the baby does come.
i guess, as an added question, too... How comfortable/set in your lives do you feel (as far as home, career, etc...)?

Re: What is your schedule like?
to answer my own question.... we both would Love to TTC now. I have 9 neices and nephews (2 sets of twins that are 1 and a half)... so we like the idea of them having cousins/ family their own age. BUT... i work FT, and go to school (4 nights/ 16 hours a week)... sometimes i feel like we dont even have time to conceive, let alone actually raise, a child BUT, then i think about workinig PT, or making those 'adjustments'......
i'm rambling.. but i guess i'm just curious what others have going on in their lives while TTC?

Re: What is your schedule like?
We both have full time jobs...and that won't be changing when we have a child.
I also have to travel 45-1hr each way....which also really adds into my day
But since this isn't going to change ...we are just going to have to make it work for us...
I have a daycare at the job...which IMO is a big plus...
plus my DH works close to home so that is also a big plus...
It will be hard i am sure...but hey..i never expected it not to be

Re: What is your schedule like?
i guess its not the working part that bothers me so much (i work 7 minutes from home.. DH too) so not having the commute saves Alot of time. Plus, the ILs are nearby just in case...
but, everyone says to wait until i finish school. and the *logical* side of me knows that they're right...but then the other side just wants to TTC already. if i wait until i finish school... then i'll have to wait until i have some time 'in' in my new position.... i just feel like there will always be something

Re: What is your schedule like?
What a great post! I am currently wrapping up my 2nd year of grad school. I am doing a full time (UNPAID ) internship next year. I will graduate with my EDM in School Psych. My husband currently works for the city and at Home Depot (until I start working again).
We live in a rent stabilized apartment in Queens and would love to own a home. He is 32 and I'm 29. I'm hoping to get preggo this year, finish internship, take whatever licensing exams are necessary and go back to work for the 07/08 school year.
Depending on when and where I get a job we would then purchase a home (one of my DH's BIG dreams)....but it seems so complicated, and $$ wil be tight between student loans and a baby...BUT...is there ever a "perfect" time !?!?!?

Re: What is your schedule like?
I have to be on the road by 6:15 am the latest and most days can be home by 3 pm (if I leave at the bell) but as a high school teacher of college courses I have about 2-3 hours of work a night
I also have to care for my Dad, who is disabled from a stroke, so I would have to visit him at least once a week and take him to the doctor's about 7 times a year (mostly on school breaks). I also send out his bills and do some shopping for him.
DH works close by, about 15 minutes, and he can work from home occassionally. He is usually home by 4:45 if he is not traveling. He will most likely be the one to drop off the kiddies in the morning. Not sure what we will do when he travels. He is sometimes gone for four days at a time
IL's are close by but they are 70, a young 70 but still 70. I would not rely upon them for full time daycare, I think it would be too much.
We have already planned on me taking a year off from work (teacher) when the first is born and probably just do some tutoring. Hopefully, IVF won't cost too much (I have good insurance) and we won't have to do more than one round so I can still take off for one year.
No more school for me... I was soooo done at MS plus 60 a long time ago.
ETA: We are very comfortable with jobs, we are in our late 30's and just completely redid our dream home... with 2 bedrooms in gender neural colors... we are beyond ready

Re: What is your schedule like?
Both DH and I work full time jobs.
I leave the house around 7:40am and don't return home until about 6pm. (45-50 min. each way) With my job, there aren't that many people that do what I do with the level of experience I have obtained. I am hoping that my job will allow me to flex my hours a bit--even if it means a pay cut. Or I have the option of going free lance (although then I have to worry about health insurance and retirement.)
My DH's situation is totally different. He just started a business (with partners) in April. His part in the company is setting up and managing the office and he often has to work late hours to make sure the work gets done. There are many nights that I don't see him until 8pm. He also gets paid monthly out of profits.
We bought a house last July so not working is not an option.
However, this isn't going to get better any time soon. And I'm going to be 34 in about a week. So I really don't want to put it off any longer.
Both our familes live on LI, but I won't rely on them for daycare. Only for baby sitting if we need a night out.

Re: What is your schedule like?
One of the reasons I left my job in the city was because I knew I didn't want to be a mom who was gone from 7am until 8 at night (and one who was really cranky when they got home)
Now that I switched jobs and am working on Long Island things will be much easier. I would like to be more established in my new career before I have kids but I guess we'll see what happens.
DH is a teacher and then runs an afterschool program so he doesn't get home till 6:30 and that won't change.

Re: What is your schedule like?
We both work full time- I am a flight attendant so I never have a really normal schedule. I would need to take my maternity and the re-evaluate. My il's are right here and have offered ,as I would appreciate any help - I don't want to take advantage. I will take them up from time to time but not ALL the time. I know I am very lucky in that sense.
ETA- my job gets int he way of conceiving for sure. WE are ready

Re: What is your schedule like?
I dont think it will ever be the perfect time for us. We don't own a home yet. We arent loaded. But we are far from poor and we are able to save. My age (35) and family history drives us to TTC now as opposed to waiting until we have MILLIONS in the bank.
I will say this though. These past two years has thrown so many unexpected curves towards my family. We have been able to handle each and every one of them. This is because we are a strong, supportive and educated family unit. As we actually PLAN to have a child, we actually know what to expect. Maybe we wont shop at Saks for baby clothes and maybe we may have to borrow a rocking chair, but our child will have everything they need - just like us!

Re: What is your schedule like?
I work full time and still go to school. Im on the 20 year college plan. I have a 5 yr old now, and i did it when she was little, and im planning on doing it with the next one. It might be harder, but im willing to take the chance. Plus, it gives DH bonding time with the kids. When im home, i do most of the kids stuff, but when im not there, its all up to him. I dont think there is ever a "perfect time" You cant imagine all the sacrifices you'll make once the little ones come around. I would plan on continuing school, and if you have to cut back a class or 2, then thats what you gotta do. But there is always a way. Good luck in your decision.

Re: What is your schedule like?
My schedule is full time job M-F, then school 3-4 nights a week, DH works 14 hr days M-F and then a weekend job. I cannot change my schedule for at least another 2 yrs. DH and I talk about this all the time, when would be able to see our child. Day care is a definate. Not sure what we are going to do but I guess we will figure it out.

Re: What is your schedule like?
For now, we both work in Manhattan, and DH just got his schedule changed to 7-3, which means he's out of the house by 5:30. I"m out by 7 and don't get home until 7. I'm temping, so after this assignment I'll be looking for a job in LI to be closer to home. My mom works for a child care referral agency, so I at least have a few reliable people on hand to take care of a child when the time comes.
We just moved into our first home in April, and left one bedroom for a nursery. We're ttc right now, and truly believe all will work itself out when the baby comes.
to all who are trying!!

Re: What is your schedule like?
We both work FT. DH is in the military and leaves for a year in the fall. We will get one visit during the year (maybe two!) and hope to maybe hit the jackpot TTC-wise that visit. But we won't try before then because he'd miss out on everything vs. the just first half of pregnancy if we hit the mid-deployment jackpot. So that's the plan on TTC.
Work wise his job is stable, of course, and luckily in his military area being in DC is a big plus so we won't be moving anytime w/in the next 4 years. I will finish grad school (going P/T) next Sept. and then I hope to work P/T after having a baby or telecommuting a few days a week. Either is completely doable.
I think the only down side is family is pretty far for us both. It would be nicer if some part of the family were closer but that will most likely never be the case.

Re: What is your schedule like?
has anybody worked out a flex time schedule with their bosses?
I may have to. A lot of people here work from home a day or two a week. I may be able to do that. My job type requires that I am here though, but maybe a job share?

Re: What is your schedule like?
I am 60% percent to have a baby right now. I still like to go out and party and I started a job and I am really enjoying it (and the dual income) but I am going to be 29 in a few weeks and I think it is just time.

We both work FT but with DH being a teacher, that helps a little. We just bought a house and are okay with those payments, so we are all set. At least I hope so.

I hope that my job will allow me to do that. It's a small company. (The owners are a husband and wife) I could definately do my job from home. But they like having "someone in the office" that does my job. They used free-lance people to cover this job until they found me. I just hope at this point that they'll want to keep me happy and work with me on this.
But I won't talk to them about it until I am actually PG and far enough along. My DH and I discussed this and decided it was best to wait until it happens.

Re: What is your schedule like?
This is a great thread! Well we are not TTC yet, but it is due to our schedule... This year we are focusing on paying off all credit card debt..because student loan debt is coming to get us! We own a 2 bedroom condo, which I think is fine for a baby, but DH wants a house. Plus he just took the patent bar, so he is going to be switching legal fields and getting a new job soon hopefully. So basically, he wants all his ducks in a row. I feel they are already in enough of a row...but he is very anal about this plan. So....I just wait!

Re: What is your schedule like?
We both work DH from 6:30-%:00 Me from 8:30-5:00 both within 15 minutes of home. I also have my mom next door, DH's mom about 1/2 mile away and his borthers and their wives and kids within 1/2 mile away...We will use them when needed.
That said I am applying for Nursing School next year, hope to start in Sept. Will I be able to do it ? I dont know?
But for me, and this is JUST ME. I would rather me a mom then anything else. Thats MY goal in life, so I would give up other goals or make them wait a little longer in return, But I dont think most feel as I do to be honest. And I see nothing wrong with "Waiting".
although in my mind is also that I was PG twice ( lost both) but got PG first time trying with each. NOW..I thought it would happen same way and her we are 19 months later and seeing dr's 7-10 times a month to TTC...so I am so glad I didnt wait any longer.
Its all about perspective and choices. There is NO eays answer but everyone I know MAKES it work and we will too.
P.s Neens I cant WAIT till your a mommy ( of course I may be raising yours as well once we move into the commune but still you and Milke are gonna be amazing parents when they time comes!)

We both work FT...I am working in the city. I plan on looking for something outside of the city though, bc I don't want to leave so early and come home so late and miss so much time with my child. Right now I leave the house at 7:15am and generally get home at about 6:30pm.
