What kind of city do we live in?
That changes the school bus routes, and gives little kids a Metro Card to take the subway or buses by them selves? Imagine a 1st, 2nd or 3rd grader takeing the subway?!

Re: What kind of city do we live in?
The one story that got me was the 10 year old girl has to get up at 5:45 am and doesn't get home until 5:40pm b/c of this rerouting!! All she has time to do is eat and do her homework and then go to bed. She doesn't have anytime anymore to be a kid. And putting 5 year olds on public transportation brilliant idea people

I saw this on the news last night. Bloomberg's answer: Call 311 I think he was making a stab at the parents who did not respond to the initial letters sent about the pending changes before they went into effect, but now are complaining directly to the newscasters. Not that I think the comment was necessary, but he has a point. The letter was supposedly sent out during the winter break. No 311 calls were made, nor were there an influx of calls made to the transportation division for alternate routes, etc. Now it is all over the news.
I think it is an awful idea putting children on public transportation in the way they are suggesting, but I also think the parents should have been a little more responsive to the letter when it could have made a difference.

don't younger kids go to school in there neighborhood? I always see the little kids walking to the school by me- and same when I lived in the city
I thought just 6th or 7th graders started going to schools all over the city?
my cousin is 15 and lives in SI- she has been taking the city bus to school for years- it takes her 90 minues- my aunt and uncle finally agreed to let her go to another school closer to her house

I was going to say, can't the 10 year old little girl go to a school closer to her home? where is she going that it'll take her that long to get there?
