What kind of coffee do you brew at home?
DH and I have been buying DD original blend coffee beans for years. for the past few months, the coffee just isn't that good anymore. it has a very bitter after-taste.
we initially thought it was our coffee maker. so we went out and spent a good amount of $ on a new one. and the coffee still wasn't good.
so we decided to look for a new brand. we tried a few different kinds from Trader Joe's, not happy with any of them. we tried 8 O'Clock beans, blah.
we are not fans of Starbucks b/c they burn their beans and all their coffee IMO has a burnt after-taste.
please recommend your favorite brand.
Thanks!

Re: What kind of coffee do you brew at home?
we mail order 7-8 lbs of whole bean coffee at once, store it at room temp in freezer ziplocks, and grind it right before we use it. (we use slightly more than 1 lb a week).
we found a wonderful coffee shop on bleeker st called porto rico importers. they have amazing coffee, always very fresh, and runs roughly $7/lb.... so with shipping, it's still cheaper than DD, but much higher quality IMO. (the bitter taste comes from a few bad beans with amazingly bitter flavor... I think it was america's test kitchen that counted them.. something like 5% in DD coffee... yeah they're dorks and so am I for watching them!)
porto rico will grind the beans how ever you want, if you're interested....
here's their website

I was thinking the same thing about DD, so I bought Newman's Own. I am cheap, though, and won't open it until I finish the DD.
Oddly enough I just finished reading a book and the girl in the book goes to Porto Rico because she is a coffee fiend. I thought it was made up, but I guess not.

we brew espresso (lavazza or illy) and puerto rican coffee - cafe rico, alto grande and yauco selecto (which we buy everytime we go to PR). i've seen cafe rico in specialty markets in the states though.
