any tips to prepare for a BIG interview....update I'm back
TIA!
update- it went really well- she loved my background and thought I would be a good fit for a certain position
she is going to talk to the person I would be working for and get back to me on monday
I am trying not to get too excited- I already mailed a thank you letter- since she will be out of the office starting wednesday- I wanted her to get it before she goes

Re: any tips to prepare for a BIG interview....
Research about the company and the position you are applying for. Be prepared for the questions that are going to be asked like what are your weaknesses...tell me about yourself...etc.... Prepare ahead of time your professional outfit and try it on before so that you feel comfortable in it. And just be confindent and think that you are going to see if this job and company are the right fit for you. Go get them !! Good Luck !!

Be yourself, but tell them what they want to hear. (If the job is really worth it)

Know things about the company Wear nice shoes Be on time (ten minutes early...a given) Try not to talk too fast...I do this if I'm nervous. Have references available Know exactly how to explain what is on your resume

Re: any tips to prepare for a BIG interview....
Research a lot
prepare some ideas/thoughts on what you would do if you are in that position
If applicable, come in with a portfolio of your work, writing samples- even if it's just business documents, etc.
Dress for the job. If you are interviewing for a job in a creative field- don't wear a corporate looking suit
try to relax-- think of the interview as a business meeting. I always found that if I had a meeting-- I would be confident, etc. Just thinking about it being "an interview" can make a lot of people nervous. Even when you are in the interview-- it's a conversation-- not a firiing line of questioning.

funny you should say that- i walked in for my first interview after college with the trade paper- the front page was about Macy's- the girl interviewing me nearly fell out of her chair- and hired me on the spot
I get daily trade updates- but I will check the newspaper also

Eat something before you go - nothing worse than a growling stomach or hunger pains on an interview.

Re: any tips to prepare for a BIG interview....
I once heard an HR person say that they are interviewing because they have a need, which means they want to like you. So just be yourself! It's a conversation. And like a previous poster said, you are interviewing them at the same time to make sure its a fit on your end.
Be prepared - know the company, the industry, and yourself.
Also, be prepared with questions of your own.
If you have questions about how to address specific questions, please let me know, and I'll do my best to help.

I agree. Have one or two questions about the company or position. I usually ask the person how long they have been at the company and what they like most least about it. Usually the person likes to talk about themself and it takes a nice chunk of time. A lot of times they are flattered that I even asked about them.

Re: any tips to prepare for a BIG interview....
to make yourself more at ease, just tell yourself you are going to have a business conversation with someone....remind yourself that you know what you are talking about and you are just discussing something with a colleague. It always helps me! Good luck!

Re: any tips to prepare for a BIG interview....
I always do research on the company, which if it's a public company, is easy to do.
I also write down a list of questions that I want to ask. Writing them helps me commit them to memory and I also rehearse them out loud.
I bring this list with me and keep it in my leather portfolio. I ask questions about the position, my responsibilities, what will be expected of me in short-term & long term. I ask if the position is new or if it's is replacing someone. I also ask how long the position has been open for and where there are in the interview process.
Although this isn't always true, the longer the time you spend with someone, the more likely they will remember you. This helps when they are in the early stages of interviewing. They measure all other candidates against you.
Oh yeah...and know your resume inside and out! Bring references for HR, and a few extra copies of your resume and an extra pen!
Good Luck!

Re: any tips to prepare for a BIG interview....
In addition to everything mentioned above (great advice ladies!!!), depending on the position I am interviewing for - I will sometimes ask if it is alright if I take a few notes while the interviewer is telling me more about the position and background about the company. It actually has really come in handy when I have gone on Round 2 interviews with the same company because I can refer back to what I already learned and use it to my advantage. I then tailor my responses about why I want the position to reflect what I have already been told... it helps to win over the higher-ups and feed them what they want to hear!
Good luck to you!!!
