The baby is breech - Updated with new c-section date!
I went to the doctor to have my 36 weeks sonogram, and just as I was telling him about my friend who had a c-section last week because the baby was breech and how I Don't want that, he tells me my baby is breech and he wants to schedule a c-section.
He told me I can try to turn her, but it would be a major procedure with an epidural that can put the baby in distress and I may end up in a emergency C-section anway.
And to make matters worse, he wanted to schedule the c-section one day before 1 week before my due date, because the 13 the OR is booked, so he schedule me for the 12th. April 12 is the second Seder- so my family will have to chose to either be with me that night, or have the seder and DH will be alone with me- but he can't spend the night because of hospital policy.
I am so disappointed. I know the baby will be fine, but I had always dreamed about going into labor- and all the excitement of when will my water break. Its just so natural and to me- such a part of being a woman and the birth experience. I also didn't want to spend 4 nights in the hospital and have surgery. Not to mention going a week earlier. I was happy with my due date. I know it will all work out, and at the end of the day I will have my baby girl, and that is all that matters. But it is still disappointing.
ETA: The doctor will scheduled the C-section for the 14th- that way I could be with my family for the Seder and I won't be going too much before my due date!

Re: The baby is breech
I'm sorry to hear this. You've had such a good PG so far (or at least it seemed like you did). Maybe the baby can still turn on its own in the next 3 weeks? If not, maybe your doc can schedule the section for the 14th instead since the OR is booked for the 13th. Then it won't interfere with your Seder?
Don't worry about having a C-section and it not feeling natural or like a woman. You carried your little girl in your belly for 9 months and that is what makes you a woman -- not how she gets out of there. As you said, at the end of the day you will have your little baby in your arms and how she got there doesn't matter. All that matters is that you are her mother and you will love her to death no matter what.

Re: The baby is breech
Thanks girls. I am coming to terms with teh C-section part of it. Now its just an issue of the date. If he can change it to the 14th, I will be all set.

Re: The baby is breech
I agree with pp too! I was in the same position with my first (and wouldn't you believe it, now again with my second!), and my doc scheduled a c/s. I know the earliest they would do it was 1 week before, but it doesn't have to be, you can make it a few days before and that way it won't interfere with Seder. Even with it scheduled, my son decided to come on his own anyway, so maybe your girl will too. I ended up having a c/s, but it wasn't at the time we scheduled!
Also, although I did't try it based on my docs recommendations and the low probability, I believe a version to turn the baby doesn't require an epidural, but you will be in a hospital setting hooked up to monitors. I could be wrong because I opted not to have one.
Your baby girl will be just beautiful no matter how she comes out!

Re: The baby is breech
Do you think you still have enough time where the baby might actually move on their own? I don't know if that is possible...

i can relate, there is a strong possibility i may have to have a c-section and it is not something i want to have to do. in the end i will do what is deemed best for and hope for a favorable outcome!

Its possible, but not likely. Meanwhile I am trying every midwife trick in the book I can find to have her turn on her own... and some of them are pretty silly.

we just learned about this procedure in our childbirth class. There is a way to turn the baby without an epi. From what I have been told, you get hooked up the monitors, a sono is done to check the position of the baby, then 2 drs with the help of a sono, physically move your bellly around to move the baby into the head down position. The nurse said it is very uncomfortable, but has seen it work many times.
Good luck

A friend of mine was in the same situation. She choose to have the baby turned. 2 Drs did it for her in Jersey she was dead set against having a c-section. She said the procedure was painful but so glad she did it because she had her baby 100% naturally with no drugs. I think she a little crazy for no epi, but if you can do it great. For me the epi was my best friend.

I'm so sorry Dont you think your family would rather be with you for the birth of your daughter though? Did you tell the dr that that day was a day of religious observance for you?

No I didn't realize it at the time. I did call back this morning and tell him. He is Jewish also, so hopefully he will be understanding.
I know my family would want to be with me, but my sister has a 9 month old and she can't bring the baby to the hospital, so she will have to chose between me and her family- and I don't want to put her in that position. I also don't want my mom to have to chose between me and my sister and my neice.
I guess it comes down to I just don't want to miss this experience with my family if it can be avoided. If it can't, my baby's health comes first. This is my neice's first seder and we had all these wonderful plans.
Well you know what they say- you want to make G-d laugh, plan

My sister also had this done at 37 weeks, no epi,I don't even think it was a choice. She said it was painful but only for a few minutes, its more the anticipation & stress of being hooked-up to the monitors. She later delivered vaginally. No problems.

Re: The baby is breech
He told me I can try to turn her, but it would be a major procedure with an epidural that can put the baby in distress and I may end up in a emergency C-section anway. This is actually total BS. It is called an external verision. MANY women have them done and NO epidural is given or used. It is done GENTLY but you need someone who is good at doing it. Obviously your doctor is not comfortable with it. I would get a second opinion. I have heard that Dr. Mckenna at Contemparty Women's Care in Smthtown is VERY good at these. I wish I had called him to help me when I was told my baby was breech. Nancy had it done and she was FINE. SOOO many women have the procedure without complications. You can remind the OB that c/s is a MAJOR surgery done with a spinal and it is has a lot of its own risk.
What type of breech baby do you have? If you have a Frank breech, which is very common you CAN go into labor naturally and then have a c/s if the baby doesn't turn. DO NOT get forced intot a c/s!! I did!!! Your baby still has time to turn as well.
I was bullied! I hate to see other women treated that way.
