Where can I find info on an old estate on LI? UPDATED

My school used to be an estate, and some teachers have been experiencing some "interesting" things there lately, and I am trying to find the history of who lived there before it was a school.
My friend was subbing there the other day, and without knowing what other teachers had been experiencing, she said to me, "Don't think I'm weird, but I was in the room alone, glanced up and saw a woman, but when I looked again and asked Can I help you? She disappeared."
Well, the teacher that she was subbing for has said this before, too, and they had never exchanged storied
So now I am obsessed with finding out who lived there before. Ontop of that, I am doing a sleepover there as a fundraiser for the kids in January, and now I'm not so sure I want to

It's pretty easy to find out info on the old estates. I was able to track down the bio of the first owner of my parent's antique 1929 Christ Craft. I'm sure an estate would be much easier. If you want to FM me, I could see what I can find for you.

I don't know what the name of it was before it was a school. It became a school in 1952, I think. I don't even know if I would call it an estate, it's even bigger than that. I'm going to ask around school tomorrow to try to get some info.

You should google the school and see if it will tell you what estate it was before

Or google the town...maybe you can find something out like that.

Or put an era like 1920's in with the town name and see what pops up

Nada. Nothing. I think I'll just snoop tomorrow and then head to the library one of these days. You'd think I would have better things to do....well, I do, but I don't want to do them

wow , very cool, i always watch those haunting shows on tv ...fh works at a fire dept that everybody says is haunted also

I can't watch those shows! They freak me out! Part of me is scared of the "unknown", and part of me feels like I will be safe, even if I do experience something. So it's a toss-up for me!

funny you say that i always watch them then im spooked out!! lol the other night i was watching them then FH's firepager went off and he left!! i was like u r leaving???? lol i was scared to stay at home alone lol he yelled at me why the hell do do you watch them then lol im intrigued by them but scared at the same time lol

Ok, so a little update for those interested.
I did some snooping today, and it seems as though what the art teacher saw was VERY definite. This is an educated woman with her doctorate, and I take what she says very seriously. She said she was at the school around 9 or 10 one night and as she rounded the corner, she saw a woman walking in the hallway dressed in "period" clothing from the late 1800s. She looked, then did a double take and when she looked again, the woman disappeared. When her and my friend shared stories, they were very similar in how they looked. They also both said they got a happy feeling from the sighting, not a bad one. I found that comforting. It is supposedly one of the sisters who used to live here.
I am going to go and do some more snooping and will update again later!

(clearly, as the music teacher, i have WAY too much time on my hands! hahah)

I am so curious!! What school is it, or do you prefer not to say? Private or public? These things really interest me........ they spook me too tho!!

Sounds interesting- you can go to the town's or county's record hall- and look up an old deed. I do it all the time for work in the city. Definitely keep us posted.
