That's BS -- if my DH replied to my request for help when I was sick by sleeping in another room, I would tell he can continue sleeping there until he was ready to be part of the family. Chat Icon

I am sorry he's not helping you and I hope you feel better soon. Chat Icon

Second, I don't have a child yet, but I have to think that when your husband agreed to have children he also agreed to take a hand in raising them.
This is not an option, you are a team. If you do not feel well then he should step in without you even having to ask. I would wake his a## up and tell him that you need your rest. By taking care of your son and allowing him to sleep your husband is getting away with neglecting his responsibilites toward his WIFE and SON!
Go wake him up and get your rest, so you can get better!Chat Icon

walk in. hand him the baby, hand him the bottle, and walk away. if he asks or says anything.... just say that you were just kidding when you acted like you cared whether or not he wanted to feed the baby, and that he WILL, in fact, be in charge of the feeding.

honestly, he's off his rocker if he thinks he can pick and choose when he wants to feed his child.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I could not agree more. If this were my dh, he would find me down at my parents house this AM and he'd be with the baby.
Your son is not just YOUR son. It takes 2 to tango and he needs to be responsible as well.
With 5 months for me to go until our baby comes..DH and I will definitley be having talks starting today. I hope you feel better soon and I hope your dh wakes up! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree with the rest of the ladies here, but also am wondering something:

Where are the men of LIF? I would love to hear some male input on this situation. It seems ridiculous that any father would refuse to care for his own child.

I have a friend with a five month old and she gets up all the time because she is home from work until September but she has said that once she is back in work, it is fair game and they will BOTH get up.

Don't let him pull this nonsense and then coo at the baby later. Make sure he knows that by choosing to ignore the baby when he needs him, he can't enjoy the good moments either.

What is your DH problem? You need to let him understand that he is just as responsible for taking care of the baby just the same way you are. First, of he sees that you are sick you should not have to ask him to do the feeding that he should do right off the back. You need to lay out things to him when you are feeling better.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It's his job, just as well as yours. I would have went to bed and kicked him out of the bed when the baby woke up.

sorry you're going through this. I probably would set the baby up in the room he's sleeping in and lock myself in my room to get some rest. Men can be so selfish sometimes. I'd be so pizzed off too Chat Icon

I am not a mother but if this happened to be I would be poed. Like I said on a previous thread, I truly believe parenting is a TEAM effort, not just a mommy effort with daddy helping once in a blue moon!!! We are in 2006!!!

My sister was and still is sick. She could barely move the other day but had to go to work for a few hours. As soon as she came home he sent her right to the bedroom - she didnt even get to see Bella otherwise she would have wanted her.. and he made her sleep and get rest and he did EVERYTHING!!!! he also didnt want Bella to get sick again....

Anyway, I hope you are doing ok and you put your foot down. Too many of my friends have become resentful of their husbands because they allow this to happen too many times!!

I agree with the post above. I feel you should speak to your husband. I remember some other posts you had made in the Parenting Boards. Is there something bothering him? There might be something bothering him or he might have some feelings of inadequacy as to how to care for the baby. It's a big and tough transition from being only a couple to having a child and the added responsibilities that this brings with it. It can get a bit overwhelming for anyone especially for first time parents. I don't think being mad at him is going to help. I think you need to find out as to why he's acting this way and his feelings. Tell him how you feel as well and how not having him next to you to help makes it even more difficult. Tell him you need his support but most of all his love and he's being there for you and your baby. You should tell him how you are now a team and how helping you...he's also helping his own son and he will create a more deeper bond with his son.
I think you need to have a heart to heart talk with your husband and not only tell him how you feel but also find out how he's feeling.
Hope things start working out for both of you soon. Chat Icon Chat Icon
