Hardwood or carpet??
We are trying to decide what flooring to use for the upstairs of our house. We are going to put tile in the bathroom. There will be 2 bedrooms and a workout room that need flooring. What would you recommend? The first floor of the house is all hardwood.

I love carpets in the bedrooms. I have hardwood on my first floor - except my family room. All of the cozy rooms I have carpet in.

Re: Hardwood or carpet??
We finally started installing our laminate flooring this weekend.
We bought Westhollow Laminate. It has the "look of hardwood" because there are V-grooves between each plank. But installing this gives you the advantages of laminate... that its a floating floor and easy to install (just click the planks together).
We started one room this weekend... and will continue to lay this laminate throughout the entire 1st floor.
Here is a preliminary pic I took of it. Pic quality isnt the greatest since it was taken in the evening.

Re: Hardwood or carpet??
I love the hardwood. My parent's house is all hardwood, upstairs and downstairs, some rooms have area rugs, most don't. It is such a clean look.

Re: Hardwood or carpet??
I am not crazy about hardwood for upstairs just because of the moise factor --- hate to hear shoes over my head, and the carpeting buffs that.

Re: Hardwood or carpet??
For bedrooms? Carpet. It's more cozy to me and since they are upstairs i'd put it down for the noise factor.
For the workout room, I'd do more of a mat instead of hardwood or carpet.

I agree. We have carpet in the bedrooms and hardwood everywhere else.

I love hardwood floors. You can always put area rugs or throw rugs down in the bedrooms to give it a cozier feel.

Re: Hardwood or carpet??
Our house is all hardwood. I love it. I can't believe the previuos owner has it covered in wall to wall. I'm definitely a fan of the hardwood over carpet. But at times, I think the hardwood can look cold and hard, where as carpeting is nice and homey.

Re: Hardwood or carpet??
I am having issues down here with my hardwood and the area rug that I got for under my dining room table. The rug sheds ALL over the place so you see these little fuzzs everywhere. I am on my hands and knees every day cleaning it up. AND - the dust shows up soooo fast on hardwood floors. I think I wouldn't get anything done if I had hardwood all over my house. I would be cleaning my life away. It drives me crazy!

I hate mopping, although I love the look of hardwood floors. So my vote is carpet.

I love hardwood, but I would probably put down carpet in the workout room.

Re: Hardwood or carpet??
Hardwood maybe with area rugs.
We actually have hardwood floors throughout the entire house except for two rooms (on a cement slab, no basement under them) that are carpeted. We already ripped up the carpet in one room and will be replacing with red oak floors to match the rest of the house.

Re: Hardwood or carpet??
I prefer Hardwood floors. I hate all the dust though. I was dusting the floor everyday. I just bought the Robomaid and I love it. It is an electronic floor sweeper. It works good if you have wood floors. I just set it for an hour and leave the room. It shuts off on it's own. Pretty cool, I bought it on Ebay.

Thanks - I may have to try that. The dust drives me crazy.
