Does anyone want to see the cake I made for Emily's Birthday Party??
This was my first shot making a special kinda cake. My mom's friend used to make them for her kids when we were little and I always loved them -- so I was excited to make one for Emily for her birthday.
It certainly isn't perfect but I am *SO* proud of it and so glad that I made her cake myself instead of having it done at a bakery.
I didn't use any molds -- just round cake pans and then cut the circles to shape ----And I colored the icings myself with food coloring and then used a piping bag to decorate -- hopefully I'll get better at it each year!
and the best part is is that it's safe for my Mom to eat too because she has Crohn's Disease and can't have dairy. If I had gotten it from a bakery (which is what usually happens at parties) my mom wouldn't have been able to have cake...

Melissa- that's fabulous!!!!! Could you give me the recipe? So far Steven is allergic to dairy and I would love to make a cake he could eat!!!!

Melissa- that's fabulous!!!!! Could you give me the recipe? So far Steven is allergic to dairy and I would love to make a cake he could eat!!!!
I have a betty crocker cookbook so I used the recipe from that to make it homemade but instead of using regular butter or margarine I used fleishman's margarine since it is dairy free and I used soy milk instead of regular milk. I can give you the recipe if you need it!

it's beautiful....my dad used to make us special cakes for our birthdays when we were little and I LOVE looking at my old birthday pictures!
