Finishing Basement - Alure UPDATE on 1st post

Roughly how much should I expect to spend on finishing my basement. It needs lighting and heat, sheetrock and carpeting. I am guessing around $10k but I wanted to know if anyone has had this done this recently nad how long it takes. TIA

YAY! Alure is coming tomorrow to take a look and hear our ideas and give us an estimate. The appt. takes 2 hrs but they leave with a firm price and all design ideas too.
I am so excited! Chat Icon
I will keep you guys posted.

Re: Finished Basement - Alure system?

I sent away for the free DVD on their basement finishing system... I am SOLD on this but then again I am a sucker for infomercials. But they bring up alot of valid points about their system versus drywall and that home improvement show used them.

Any opinions?

Re: Finished Basement - Alure system?

Looks goregous!

I see they have "open houses"...one is in my neighborhood in August. You should check one of them out. Maybe you can talk more with the home owners to get their opinion. Then again...I'm sure they love it if they're willing to do an open house.Chat Icon

Re: Finished Basement - Alure system?

they did our basement. the cost really depends on how big your basement is. they do not use sheetrock. they did the whole job in like a week and a half. we were very happy w/ the service & end result.

fm me if you have any questions.

Looks like fiberglass... I am thinking it is like a cubicle wall.

PVC is plastic (the molding) and from that drawing, it looks like the core of the wall is like a fiberglass that is more rigid than regular insulation, so the wall itself probably serves as the insulation. It looks like a good option for a basement, especially if you can easily remove it to check for leaks in your foundation walls or to make pipe or electrical repairs.

I would want to go to an open house to check it out too, to see what it looks like in person, and to see how sturdy it appears.

Re: Finished Basement - Alure system?

Well I guess everything will be different depending on what you want done and the size obviously. We are going to schedule a free consultation/estimate and go from there.

We saw this system at a home improvement show and (and this is just my opinion) it was nice but I think sheetrock has more versatility (sp?) You can paint it, wallpaper it...

When the salesman what giving us his sales pitch I asked him how durable the fabric on the walls were and when he took out a key and ran it across the wall, the fabric ripped. He was pretty embarrassed.

I was worried what kids would do to it.

Best of luck in whatever you decide!

My friend works at Allure and I asked him about it. He said $30K was about right depending on how big the basement was.

Re: Finishing Basement - Alure UPDATE on 1st post

Maybe call or stop by your local Lowes & Home Depot stores to see what classes are coming up in the near future? My friends DH took an all day class for free at one of them on how to put up studs and sheet rock for their cinder block basement. He still needs to figure out the taping and plastering work but it looks great so far and he saved a ton of $$$ doing the labor himself! The room was about 18x20 on one half and then 12x15 on the other side - took him 1 weekens to measure properly and buy stuiff & 3 weekends to install it working a little at a time Chat Icon
