I don't think that her getting the surgery should be your concern. At least not the concerns you have, anyway. If she wants to be in the middle of a recovery period for your wedding, where she can't enjoy herself to the full extent, then that's her perogative.

I agree with this. I think it takes a lot for a person to get to the point in their life where they're willing to take the risk that comes with this surgery. If vanity is what is going to prompt her to have a life-changing surgery AND the benefits outweigh the risks, then it's all for the best. She's going to be looking at these pictures for a long time.

My friend had this surgery. It changed her attitude & her health completely. I've never seen her happier.

Since your original question was if I would do it or have it done sooner, my answer is I would have had it done the year before. I was the bride who lied to my dermatologist & told him I sweated profusely. I wanted to try prescription deodorant 6 months prior to my wedding so I wouldn't sweat in my strapless dress.

I agree. She is having this surgery to change her whole life. I would think that SOME thought had to have gone into this. Whether she is lazy or not.

Also, once she gets the surgery she will have a lot of work ahead of her. There is no short cut. But, this may be what she needs to get her motivated to exercise and change her lifestyle.

Except that in some cases, there are complications. If that were to occur, isn't there a possibility that she might not even make the wedding? That is what I would be concerned about.

My MIL was planning to have this surgery before our wedding and this was exactly my fear since I know someone else that had complications with stomach stapling (different procedure but I was freaked nonetheless). She ended up waiting until after our wedding. Unfortunately she only lost about 30 lbs in the year + that has passed since she had it done because she doesn't exercise.

If it was truly elective, probably not.

Probably not. Is this a MIL/FIL that wants cosmetic surgery to look better for the wedding?Chat Icon

my fmil is getting her stomach banded next month...a month before her girlfriends daughters wedding and 5 months before mine and her son's. i asked her why not wait and she said she doesn't like the way she looks in pictures.

no one is going to be looking at her anyway...she just wants to be the center of attention

I probably wouldn't do it that close but my MOH had this done 2 months before my wedding & she was fine the day of my wedding!!!!

in 5 months, would you have major ELECTIVE surgery?

that has a long recovery process. or would you wait until after the wedding? or would you have had it done a year in advance??

tia
