Dj..... Yes, you can most certainly ship a pet
So still... whats the big deal. Any buyer that buys a pet without inspecting it first is an idiot.
And assuming we don't live in a world full of idiots (stretching here LOL)... it doesn't sound like these ebay sellers will be doing this often anyways. Its buyer beware.
The whole point of listing on ebay is to generate interest in hopes of landing a local sale.
Ebay took the "politically correct" route on this one. But I betcha deep down they really don't see a big deal on this either.

Re: eBay to sell LIVE animals-----
My whole take on this whole situation is that E-Bay should allow it if they are coordinating with pet adoption agencies. I am not a big fan of any kind of breeder (mostly because the better dogs I've had were rescued mutts), but this is not to say I'm against them. My parents have had probles with pure breds, but I don't think it had anything to do with the breeders. It was more of a local "in-breeding" thing (mating within a small geographic area). Being a scientist, I'm all for a large gene pool. It seems (with a lot of LI breeders), that the gene pool has been exhausted, so you're seeing more health problems. Just my observations. I'm in no way for unreputable breeders, I just tend to feel more for all the animals that don't get adopted, so if E-Bay was able to find a logical way to help animals get adopted, then I don't see a problem.

Breeding isn't necessarily the problem, it's puppymill breeding and backyard breeders. It's a horrible, disgusting industry that I will continue to vocalize my protests.

i am just saying it isnt teh smae as buying from a reputable breeder.
but a pet shop? yes, same thing. only difference is you dont meet hte pup til its shipped to you.
Again... this is up to the buyer to make this decision. Ebay as a company should not be pushed to prevent these types of ads. They are merely providing a service to sellers.
Its up to the buyers to make the decision. If a buyer is stupid enough to buy a pet without inspecting it first... that person like I said... is an idiot.
And if the buyer is knowledgeable enough about this... then they have to be knowledgeable enough about buying from a breeder.
Hell... I think ebay's feedback system would be GREAT for this. But they took the PC route on this one. Can't blame them I suppose.

Re: eBay to sell LIVE animals-----
dj.. i see your point. my only feelings is that it helps puppymills. (and backyard breeders) it will be more sick dogs and cats being sold, etc.... it just makes it easier for people so they dont do the research and then they end up with some inbred sickly animal while if they spent two minutes to research online they could ahvea perfectly healthy pet. and youre right, thats their own fault.....
but my main point like i said is that it gives puppymills more service. and thats the saddest thing really.

Sorry Red... but you are wrong on this one. He really didn't "start" anything per se... he is simply saying what i am saying in a different tone.
You can't blame ebay for something like this.
Thats like telling "the internet" they are not allowed to route any network traffic that goes to porn sites because a kid may accidently end up going there. Its all about buyer beware.

I'll agree with this statement if you can show me cold hard proof that a particular ebay seller is guilty of this crime.
And i am not talking about generalizing.

So again... what does EBAY have to do with this?
If you are going to blame ebay for this... then you have to blame all the landlords that own the property that these pet stores lease out too.
Hell... they are "promoting" the mistreatment of these animals by allowing these pet stores to rent there.

as long as people keep buying from pet shops (just like the ppl on here who think its a great idea for ebay to seel pets) then they are keeping teh puppymill industry alive anmd its completely sad. if ppl wouldnt be so selfish and just HAVE TO HAVE that doggy in the window (and make another opening for yet another puppymill dog)and atcually did some research then it would cut down greatly.

Alright, that's a valid point. But at some point you do have to take responsibility. I think E-Bay would be asking for a huge head ache if they went a head and allowed animals to be sold. Just becuase the means to do so are out there, doesn't mean they have to allow it.

No different than all the landlords out there that rent out to pet stores. I can understand the issues with puppymills and how bad they are.
But your arguement against ebay is flawed bigtime.
