Re: who is going to eat meat today???
Nope.
I don't believe the Pope gave the okay to eat meat. What I heard was that a few Deacons and Priests in the NY area said it was okay to eat corned beef and cabbage today. Even if the Pope did give the okay (which I doubt, but please correct me if I'm wrong) I still wouldn't. Makes no sense to me that all of a sudden after hundreds of years of Catholicism it's suddenly okay to eat corned beef just because it's St. Patty's Day on a Lenten Friday.

Re: who is going to eat meat today???
I posted this not long ago - I think it was the bishops in NY that gave dispensation. I am not eating it because I am cooking my corned beef for tomorrow night. Too much work for me after working all day on a Friday

Re: who is going to eat meat today???
My in-laws are quite devout and they are making the corned beef for tonight. So we are going over there. I don't eat it anyway, so i am having spaghetti.

Not me. I don't eat corned beef, much to my mother's chagrin, and I don't think the dispensation was given to eat hamburgers.

They did it the last time it fell on a Friday , too. I think the logic is that it is a celebration of a saint ( ), so it is ok.

Re: who is going to eat meat today???
I come from a very strict Irish Catholic family and (much to my surprise!) my grandmother () and dad () and uncles () decided that we will eat just the corned beef tonight. We are obstaining for the rest of the day though. I'm definitely surprised that they are going along with this!
