I wouldn't be offended and I would venture to say that there are some ignorant people in the world who might not even know what it is and think it is decorative jewelry

I dont know if offended is the right word, but I never saw anything like that before so if anything, I would just look at it for a few minutes which people might do.

Kinda stare at ya maybe???

Yeah, that's ok. I wouldn't mind people asking questions. I need a good, brief, canned response. haha

In HS I was exploring nature based religions and I wore a pentacle, I had a pretty good canned response about the 5 elements and nature, etc... That was 100 years ago.

Your faith is what you want....wear it if you want and don't worry if people are offended...IMO they shouldn't be

Are you Jewish?

I thought your FH was and you were Catholic. If that is the case then I wouldn't wear it.

I think its cool but you may get some attention and stares from it. A good conversation starter. I like it in white gold.

I wouldn't be offended (I'm catholic). If I saw it, I'd assume you were interfaith.

Nothing wrong with it at all. If people have a problem with it, thats THEIR problem, not yours.

I agree 100%- I think it is very lovely.

You are correct. But I believe in the unity between all faiths in general, but particularly the Abrahamic faiths. I could go into my beliefs about jesus vs. the messiah of the jews and in what ways he does and does not fulfill teh OT propehcies, but that's another post, and I'd honestly have to study up, or else talk in generalities.

But mostly, FH and I are building a rich interfaith life together. We're involved in both faiths and want our childre to be also. I'm proud of our little interfaith family, and one day when we have children, I want them to be proud also. You don't have to be one or the other, there's a unique beauty to interfaith life. Our temple is about 1/3 interfaith. Lots of little kids running around named GianCarlo Sternberg. Chat Icon

Why would people get upset about it? Christianity stemmed from Judaism. Anyone who flames you doesn't understand religion anyway. If you like it and it has meaning to you, wear it.

Well, you wouldn't because you aren;t interfaith, of course...

but why else?

ETA: I'm really curious about responses, that's why I posted this.

I believe that even non interfaith christians should realize this. I think we'd have a richer faith if we kept in touch with our jewish heritage and history.

Sorry, I am so confused after all these posts. You and DH are catholic and go to an interfaith temple, and you belive in all religions, am I correct?
In regard to the actual jewelry piece...I think its fine. I agree with most of the girls that you should wear what you want. I assumed that one of you were jewish and the other catholic and thats why you wanted it. Its very pretty though.

LOL...see I was more confused then I thought. Thanks for clarifying that. I was puzzled why two catholics were doing both but now I get it and am definitely for the jewelry. It represents exactly what you both want. I agree with you though on the in law feelings...I always am worried about that! higher genrations arent as liberal as todays generation.

I would assume that was a Jews for Jesus pendant.

That was the first thing that crossed my mind too.

I agree, DH and I are both Catholic, but I hate the fact that religion causes such negative feelings for some people. Especially the whole Jewish/Christian rivalry considering the Christian beginnings. Aside from the fact when it comes down to it, we are all worshiping the same God. And you are right, there are a lot of beautiful Jewish traditions which have been lost to the Christians.

As someone who's mom is Jewish, dad is Catholic and was raised mainly Catholic, I would say it's doesn't convey the universal religion that it sounds like you were trying to find. Like I said before, it seems more like a Jews for Jesus symbol - which is fine if you want a conversation piece & to explain it everytime.

Do you belong to a Unitarian church (symbol is a chalice) or just do both religions?
