Re: Need honest opinions on this salary..
How is the salary compared to your current job? Is your current job close to you? Personally, I would need some sort of lunch. Granted lots of times I blow right through my lunch, it's nice to have a chance to get out of the office to run errands, get some fresh air, etc.

Is this decent: 1/2 from home: Suffolk County Office Manager Position 42 hours a week 7 Holidays a year 4 sick days a year $2,000.00 IRA contr. each year no health benefits (not needed) no lunch hour - to leave the office 3 weeks vacation
$48,000K per year Do you think this is decent pay?
Is the IRA payed for by them? 3 weeks- ok youve been there 12 years- shouldnt it be 5 after 6 yrs of employment? No lunch- NYS I am almost positive no lunch is illegal- if you work 4 hours by law you are suppose to get a 15 min PAYED break, so the no lunch thing is not great- no health bennies is a biggie- I think it should be more then- do you know how much money they are saving just on that! the holidays and sick are not unusual, I guess the big question is really since I personally dont think its that great, is 1. Can you afford to live on this salary 2. Are you happy 3. Does your boss treat you good and not take you for granted 4. Being there 12 yrs, do you get away with some things, like being late, etc. If you answered Yes to all then I think you have your anwser .

Re: Need honest opinions on this salary..
I think for LI it's ok, but after 12 years if they will not raise your salary I'd neogitate more vacation, at least a 1/2 hour lunch, greater contributions to your IRA, and maybe tuition reimbursement.

To me, an Office Manager position salary depends on how big of an office you manage and the scope of work.
48k is NOT a starting salary..
What was your starting salary when you went there at 18? When was your last raise?

About $20.98 an hour. Give or take.
A little more, actually ~ $21.47/hour.
(The difference is neglible, obviously )

Re: Need honest opinions on this salary..
I think its a very good salary but salaries to me depend on the advancement and how much they will go "UP" over time. The good thing about my position is I started at a low salary but with no experience or little experience and over 5 years have increased my salary $15K and to me thats a big increase in the time.
So while its is good, how long would it take you to make MORE...

Re: Need honest opinions on this salary..
I don't think that is too bad. I have been at my job over 10 years and don't make anywhere near that. No, I don't have a degree in what I do, but I have gotten the experience through the years BUT my boss does not acknowledge WHAT we actually do because she has NO clue so we are not paid anywhere near what we should be paid.

Re: Need honest opinions on this salary..
I'm self emplyed so I'm out of the loop on LI salaries, but my lil sister just started her first real job (recent college grad with an English major) and she's making $45K (in NYC), with bonus, and extra week of pay, 10 paid holidays and all benefits.
So I'd expect a lot more for 12 years experience, even on LI vs NYC.

Re: Need honest opinions on this salary..
thank you all for your responses, some of you asked about my current job - this is my job, I just wanted some opinions on it.
I think the money is good, I am not taken for granted here by boss, there is alot of down time. I think I started at $6.50 12 years ago, the raise per year is about $1,000.00. - doesn't come out to be alot weekly.
Vacation - I should get another week right?
I chose not to have health benefits and my boss did put the FULL amount he paid in my check, as a bonus / raise - whatever you want to call it.
Thank you all.

We get 3 weeks after 5 years and then have to wait to 15 years to get 4 weeks.
