Ok, can I be a beyotch for a minute? UPDATE

I'm 27 years old. My friends are 27 years old. When I invite them to my home, I provide food and drinks, etc.
So why is it that everytime someone else has a party, they always tell us, "Bring what you plan on eating and drinking?"
Am I being b-tchy by expecting to not have to bring my own food and drinks everywhere at 27 years old?

Are you joking? Bring your own? What on earth is that about. Forget it. Stay home. At home they already have food for you.

I also hate when people do this, although luckily my friends don't. Next time you have a get together you should use that one on them. My friends and I have been having pot luck get togethers the past year. It's just easier and cheaper for everybody.

Not at all- in fact, it would be nice for them to come to your house with a bottle of wine or something for dessert. I think if you're someone's guest, you should not have to bring your own food.

I don't know, maybe it's just the way I was raised, but I would never expect anyone to bring food and drinks to my home if I invited them over. NEVER EVER.

I have a particular friend that always seems to do this too - it annoys me!

Re: Ok, can I be a beyotch for a minute?

However, I also never show up anywhere empty handed, but if I'm expected to bring my own dinner, why the hell am I going?

i can understand the drinks part (for alcoholic drinks)... b/c thats how our friends usually do it (DH and his friends can put away a 12 pack Each, so they bring they're own of what they're drinking. oh, and the wives- they can put away just as much wine Chat Icon ). but whoever's hosting always has the food and soda. i do think its silly to tell people to bring what they want on the menu... it THEY're the ones having the party/gtg

My sister and I were talking about this the other day.. they were going to visit a friends house and were told they had to bring their own beer ( couple in their 30's btw)
So my bil stopped and got his own beer... and then they drank it all!! Chat Icon

I have no issue bringing alcohol, because I know how that can add up, but I'd expect the host to provide food and usually to have a couple of beers or a bottle of wine to get things started.

Re: Ok, can I be a beyotch for a minute?

I can totally understand bringing our own beer and what not because we all drink something different, but they want us to bring like soda and stuff. And he even said, "Bring whatever you want to eat for dinner and maybe some soda, and other stuff you'd like to share with everyone." EXCUSE ME? Now I have to SHARE?

Re: Ok, can I be a beyotch for a minute?

Weird! Your friends need to get their sh!t together. We go over my best friends house every Friday. We bring the wine they usually make the food. Last night they had 6the wine and we brought over 4 bottles so we got a little more buzzed than usual. It is ridiculous for someone to ask you to bring food!

Why don't you just suggest ordering pizzas. That way everyone can just chip in a coupe of bucks. I would think that would be easier than everyone bringing a little but of something. We've done that when people unexpected wind up at our house and we're just not prepared- but then again DH and I will usually pay for the pizza ourselves. Chat Icon

I think you need to find the tastiest looking food & say "No you can't have any. This is mine. You said to bring what we're eating."

Re: Ok, can I be a beyotch for a minute?

I try to always bring something when I go to someone's house -- like a cake or bottle or wine, but I don't do it because I was expected to....

Nor would I ever ask anyone to bring anything, unless of course it's asking my mom to make potatoe & mac salad because she does it the best....

But guests should not have to bring thier own food and drink.....

omg yes!! I would be sooo embarassed!! One time we invited friends over for dinner.. she specifically asked me to make something and even though that was pretty rude since I had already cooked a ton of food I was very embarassed that I didn't have exactly what she wanted and she ahd to stop at the supermarket and get it herself Chat Icon
