People who live in Suffolk and work in Nassau

A few questions for you...

How long does it take you to get to work in the AM and get home in PM?

Do you usually take the LIE?

I live in East Northport and work in Seaford. I'm a teacher so I leave at 6:10 (no later) and get to work at between 6:40 and 6:50. I MUST get on the Northern State before 6:30 because I noticed the traffic picks up around then.

I take the NSP to the LIE (one exit) to Rt. 135 south. Thankfully my school is right off the SOB. It's 26 miles each way.

Sometimes I am coming home in rush hour traffic and it can take a few minutes longer. Usually not so bad, unless severe weather, accident on side but that is rare. It tends to back up in Plainview (east) where the Northern State and the LIE cross over and then I am so far north of the NSP... it's everything north of Jericho... stop signs and lights.

I try to avoid the LIE like the plague.

I live in Ft Salonga and work in East Meadow. I take the Sunken Meadow south to the Northern State to the Meadowbrook (sometimes to the Wantagh if I'm getting gas in the morning or stopping for coffee).

In the morning, depending on when I leave, it can take under 25 minutes or as much as 45 minutes.

Going home it almost always takes 40 minutes.Chat Icon

Re: People who live in Suffolk and work in Nassau

I live in Coram and work in Melville. I take the LIE to work and my commute time changes everyday. There are days that I fly here and get to work in 40 minutes and there are days that for no reason that I could see traffic was a nightmare and it has taken me an hour and a half. Commuting stinks and so does the LIE.

Re: People who live in Suffolk and work in Nassau

I live in Lindenhurst & work in Roslyn (less than a half a block from the Americana).

I take the SSP to the WP to the NSP w/o traffic takes me about 45 min. with traffic about an 1hr-1.5hr.

I hate the LIE and in Roslyn they are right next to each other so guess it wouldn't matter but coming from home the LIE is so out of my way.

It really depends on where in Suffolk you are coming from and where you are going.

I commuted from Smithtown to Manhasset. Some mornings it took about an hour and some mornings I took over 2 hours. It really depended.

35-45 minutes for me going and a little quicker coming home. I take Sunrise 85% of the way. I leave my house at 7 and I leave work at around 3:30.

I take the same route from lindenhurst to lake success. Its about 35 min with no traffic /50 minutes to an hour and a half with traffic. Going home, its about 40-45 minutes. LIE is too much of hassle to take.

It would be Holtsville/Holbrook to Mineola so it's not quite as far North.

Any guesses on Kings Park to Mineola?

Is the LIE faster than the NSP?

about 45 minutes-1 hour....and NSP is faster. Rich drives this every day.

Remember that nasty ice/snow storm last winter?
Over 3.5 hours. Chat Icon

eta: Depends where in Mineola. He goes to Jericho Trnpke, so NSP is faster.

I would take NSP. I found it less crowded then LIE. I would say on a normal rush hour...about 45-60 minutes. If there is a major accident on any of the main highways, it could take up to 2 hours.

From Holbrook/Holtsville, you have to take the LIE until the NSP starts.

I live in E. Northport and work in Great Neck. It typically takes 40-55 minutes (if there's more than usual traffic it has taken me 65/70 minutes). I take either the NSP or Northern Blvd. Going home, though, I'll sometimes take the LIE service road and pick up NSP at exit 38 or I take Northern Blvd.

DH works in Garden City and with no traffic 25/30 minutes, with traffic about 40 minutes.

I live in Coram and work in Hempstead. Typically I take the LIE to the Sag to the SSP. Depending on the traffic reports I alter the route. If traffic is unbareable I keep going south to the Ocean Pkwy, it's longer in miles but a nicer ride. In the morning it takes me 1 1/2 hours with traffic and about the same coming home.

Is it really worth it? We were debating moving out East and a commute like that is what we would be expecting.

Any advice is appreciated.Chat Icon
